Position Summary
The Los Rios Community College District is seeking qualified candidates for this part-time, temporary (Adjunct) faculty position.
The adjunct faculty member shall be responsible for the following: counseling services and/or teaching assigned classes under the supervision of the area dean; helping students fulfill their maximum potential in mastering course content; assessing student learning outcomes; maintaining a thorough and up-to-date knowledge in their regular teaching field; continuing professional development; utilizing current technology in the performance of job duties; maintaining standards of professional conduct and ethics appropriate to the professional position; assisting with articulation and curriculum development and review; serving on college committees and participating in faculty governance including accreditation and student co-curricular activities; assuming other responsibilities as assigned by the area dean; fulfilling other duties and responsibilities of an adjunct faculty member.
The assignment may encompass teaching courses in the Human Career Development (HCD) discipline resulting in an overload assignment. The proportion of duties assigned to counseling and instruction shall be determined by student, department, and program needs, and may range from 0% to 100% for either function. The department maintains a focus on:
Counseling academically and/or economically disadvantaged students
Crisis intervention counseling
Career exploration and decision making
Outreach activities
International students
Trends and challenges facing community college students
Counseling designed to support student retention and success
Program development and coordination
Mentoring/coaching
Empathetic and active listening counseling
Position Salary Information: Initial maximum salary placement is based on academic degree, upper/graduate level units earned, and/or related professional occupational experience per theLos Rios College Federation of Teachers Contract (the initial maximum placement is Class V, Step 1). The assignment may include instructing classes, which could result in a Counselor/Instructional split assignment. The assignment may include, but is not limited to:
Extended Opportunity Programs and Services (EOPS) Counseling
Working with a high-risk student population that possibly have had no or minimal experience in higher education.
Assisting students and potential students in clarifying or establishing appropriate educational and vocational goals.
Maintaining current knowledge of counseling practices, methods, and techniques.
Counseling/Advising
Participating in the planning and implementation of the counseling and advising program as directed.
Developing individual and group counseling processes to assist students in making decisions regarding their vocational goals and academic programs.
Aiding students in resolving personal and social problems that adversely affect their achievement.
Monitoring and counseling students regarding academic progress and probation status.
Analyzing periodically the achievement records of counselees; discussing with them their academic progress in terms of both short- and long-range educational and vocational goals.
Studying the needs, interest, abilities, achievements, and aptitudes of students; making recommendations to assist the college in fulfilling its obligation to students.
Developing and maintaining close working relationships with instructional areas, outreach centers, feeder high schools, neighboring colleges, and community resource agencies.
Articulating programs with feeder high schools.
Fostering good high school/college relations.
Preparing and maintaining a cumulative counseling record for each counselee.
Relaying pertinent information to college personnel as needed and respecting the confidentiality of such records as required by law.
Performing other duties as assigned.
Human Career Development
May teach Human Career Development (HCD) courses that include, but not limited to, orientation to college, college success skills, transfer, personal development, career exploration and career decisions-making skills.
If instructional duties are assigned, they may include, but are not limited to, the following Human Career Development (HCD) courses:
HCD 115 - Orientation to College
HCD 122 - Study Skills
HCD 122 - Applied Life and Success Skills

Master's degree in counseling, rehabilitation counseling, clinical psychology, counseling psychology, guidance counseling, educational counseling, social work or career development, or the equivalent. AND
(1) Have completed a minimum of nine semester units of college course work predominantly relating to ethnic minorities or persons handicapped by language, social or economic disadvantages.
OR
(2) Have completed six semester units or the equivalent of a college-level counseling practicum or counseling field-work courses in a community college EOPS program, or in a program dealing predominantly with ethnic minorities or persons handicapped by language, social or economic disadvantages.
Two years of occupational experience in work relating to ethnic minorities or persons handicapped by language, social or economic disadvantages.
Have an equity-minded focus, responsiveness, and sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, including those with physical or learning disabilities as it relates to differences in learning styles; and successfully foster and support an inclusive educational and employment environment.

Degree titles must match the stated qualifications exactly (word-for-word).
If the degree title differs, or if it contains added, missing, or rearranged words, applicants must submit a completed Equivalency Determination Request Form for the application to be considered. See the webpage for details.
Example: If a master's in Psychology is required but your transcript lists Counseling Psychology, and that title is not listed in the Minimum Qualifications, an Equivalency Determination Request Form must be submit.

Transcript Requirements:
Transcripts must be from an accredited U.S. institution or approved foreign evaluation agency.
Foreign transcripts are not accepted. For coursework and degrees completed outside the U.S., upload a foreign transcript evaluation.
Foreign transcript evaluations must be issued by an (Association of International Credential Evaluation, Inc.) or (National Association of Credential Evaluation Services) member agency. See the webpage for details.
If more than one degree is required to meet the Minimum Qualifications (e.g., a bachelor's and a master's), separate transcripts for each degree must be included
Transcripts must clearly identify the institution's name, degree title, major and/or certifications. Highlight or circle this information.
Transcripts must indicate whether each degree is completed (confer date) or in progress.
If the degree is in progress, the application must state the month and year the degree is expected to be attained.

I have a master's degree in one of the required fields, AND have completed at least six semester units, or the equivalent, of college-level counseling practicum or counseling field-work courses in a qualifying EOPS or related program, AND have at least two years of occupational experience in work relating to ethnic minorities or persons disadvantaged by language, social, or economic barriers.
My degree title differs from the minimum qualifications degree title and/or I have not completed the required EOPS-related coursework or practicum/field-work requirement. I believe I meet equivalency and am requesting an equivalency review.
