POSITION SUMMARY

The Extended School Year ESY Assistant Teacher provides high-level instructional support to Teachers, ensuring the effective delivery and development of specialized summer programs for the districts students. This role is responsible for enhancing the educational experience for students and staff by managing daily schedules and facilitating curriculum activities. Key responsibilities include applying knowledge of healthy social and emotional development to support all learners, maintaining a safe environment, and ensuring clear communication between staff, families, and colleagues. The Extended School Year ESY Assistant Teacher serves as a vital resource for students requiring exceptional problem-solving skills, flexibility, and the ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment. TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE

Framingham Public Schools seeks candidates whose background, teaching, or service has prepared them to contribute to our commitment to diversity, inclusion, and belonging in all aspects of education.

Educational Requirement: A high school diploma is required. Additional post-secondary education credits in a related field are preferred.

Professional Experience: A minimum of one year of experience as an educator in a school or community-based setting is required.

Specialized Knowledge: Some experience working with special education students and/or children with Autism PDD or other neurological disorders is preferred.

Language Proficiency: Fluency in Spanish and/or Portuguese is strongly preferred.

• Perform duties with awareness of district requirements, state and federal laws, and Framingham Public Schools policies
• Maintain appropriate confidential records in accordance with FERPA and 603 CMR 28.00

• Apply knowledge of current research and theory in education
• Demonstrate strong teaching, coaching, and leadership skills in a team setting

Technology

• Operate and acquire skills in computer software, including Google Workspace, and use instructional technology appropriately to facilitate learning

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Collaborate strategically with the Extended School Year ESY Teacher to design, develop, and refine high-quality out-of-school time programming that meets district standards.
• Assist in monitoring student attendance and academic performance, utilizing data to support student growth and program efficacy.
• Provide essential support to team members to ensure the maintenance of a safe, productive, and efficient environment for all staff and students.
• Assist in documenting program incidents by preparing comprehensive reports in accordance with district protocols and safety regulations.
• Assist with delivering high-quality academic and enrichment curricula, ensuring activities are engaging and educationally sound.
• Motivate and mentor students to establish and achieve rigorous academic and personal objectives, fostering a culture of high expectations.
• Participate in all required professional development and specialized training sessions to ensure instructional readiness and alignment with district goals.
• Create and facilitate opportunities for students to strengthen the connection between current academic success and future college or career pathways.
• Cultivate an intentional culture of accomplishment, belonging, and mutual respect within the program community.
• Build and sustain professional relationships with students, families, volunteers, and community partners to enhance program support.
• Facilitate the successful integration and achievement of students within inclusion programming, ensuring equitable access for all learners.

• Crisis Management: Ability to physically engage with and redirect students who exhibit challenging or aggressive behaviors to maintain a safe learning environment.
• Physical Stamina: Sufficient physical strength and agility to manage active behavioral interventions and ensure student supervision during periods of emotional dysregulation.
• Interaction Level: Must frequently sit, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl to interact with early childhood students at their eye level.
• Physical Lifting: Ability to lift and/or move at least 40 lbs, e.g., lifting small children, moving play equipment, or utilizing adaptive medical equipment.
• Hygiene & Safety: Directly responsible for safety and well-being, including potential exposure to bodily fluids or pathogens associated with early childhood care, e.g., diapering and toileting.

REPORTS TO

The performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with the Framingham School Committee Contract.

FAIR LABOR STANDARDS ACT FLSA CLASSIFICATION

This position is classified as Non-Exempt Hourly.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT

• Program Duration: This role is in July and early August. Candidates must be available to attend all mandatory summer program orientation and training days.
• Attendance Requirement: Consistent attendance for the full duration of the summer programming is a prerequisite for eligibility and continued employment in this role.
• Contractual Status: This position is covered under the Framingham School Committee Contract.
• Operational Flexibility: The District reserves the right to transfer personnel to different school sites or programs based on student enrollment, specialized needs, and the best interests of the children.
