Extended School Year (ESY) Elementary Teaching Assistant
Program Dates ESY is in session 6/1/2026-6/25/2026, Monday-Thursday
Staff Hours 7:45am-12:15pm
Hourly rate of pay $31.07/hr - Summer School Teaching Support staff employees performing these duties will be paid at their regular hourly rate for the length of time the duty is performed until they reach 40 hours in a week. All hours worked over 40 hours in one week will be at the employees overtime rate.
Special Requirements Ideal candidate has extensive experience working with students with intellectual disabilities, autism, and communication delays. Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred Please note that only candidates who are available to work the entire program will be considered.
Licensure, certification, and other requirements Must have an Illinois Paraprofessional license, Substitute license, or Teacher license registered in Lake County.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Knowledge of basic instructional strategies and classroom routines Knowledge of Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) Knowledge of disability-related supports appropriate to assigned students Skill in supporting teacher-directed instruction in small group and individual settings Skill in implementing behavior support plans and de-escalation strategies Skill in collecting and recording student performance data as directed Skill in maintaining clear and professional communication with staff Ability to follow written and verbal directions Ability to support students with varying academic, behavioral, and functional needs Ability to maintain confidentiality Ability to create and maintain a safe, structured learning environment Ability to be flexible and responsive in a fast-paced summer program
Essential Functions Assist in implementing IEP goals under the direction of the special education teacher Support instructional activities in individual and small group settings Implement accommodations, modifications, and behavior intervention plans Collect and document student data as assigned Supervise students during classroom activities, transitions, arrival/dismissal, and other assigned times Support student safety, including during movement throughout the building Provide personal care assistance if required by assignment Collaborate with the ESY teacher and related service providers Participate in required ESY training and planning meetings Perform other ESY-related duties as assigned
