Job Description
Eyring Materials Center at Arizona State University is looking for a Research Scientist Open Rank High-Pressure Lab Manager. The candidate will be responsible for finalizing the establishment of the FORCE Facility for Open Research in a Compressed Environment facility and managing ASUs high-pressure facility. This position is supported by Arizona State University. Once operational, FORCE will serve as a national center that will attract high-pressure researchers from the U.S. and around the world and it is expected to operate as a cutting-edge facility for many years.
The facility includes 6 high-pressure pieces of equipment, two 1000-ton Walker-type presses, a 6000-ton uniaxial Kawai-type press, a 1500-ton DIA press, a high-pressure torsional device, and a 600 MPa internally heated gas vessel.
Facility management includes:
• Training users to operate the facilitys equipment • Maintaining the equipments iLab schedule • Conducting high-pressure runs • Generating training materials as appropriate • Developing techniques as needed
The candidate must work effectively as part of a team and have extensive experience with multi-anvil press operation.
Essential Duties
Carry out testing and calibrations as needed.
Purchase and coordinate purchasing of lab supplies, including materials for high-pressure cell assemblies.
Assist facility users.
Supervise student workers.
Oversee the facility budget.
