The Quality Assurance Analyst and Manager, Railcar Inspection (“QARI”) Mexico is responsible for monitoring the manufacturing and Quality Assurance processes throughout all phases of railcar production, as well as, performing final inspections of tank cars and freight cars. The position will also have supervisory responsibility for one new Railcar Inspector in Mexico.
GATX, one of the largest railcar leasing companies in the world takes delivery of up to 3,000 new railcars per year and the “QARI” efforts are intended to maximize GATX’s procured railcar quality, value, and reliability from Mexico manufacturing plants while meeting GATX and customer requirements.
This is a corporate hire, but the work will be located in Mexico. Time will be split between Monclova and Sabinas, and the incumbent will be required to be in one of these facilities 5 days a week.

El Analista y Gerente de Aseguramiento de Calidad e Inspección de Carros de Ferrocarril (“QARI”) en México es responsable de supervisar los procesos de manufactura y de aseguramiento de calidad en todas las fases de producción de carros de ferrocarril, así como de realizar inspecciones finales de carros tanque y carros de carga. Esta posición también tendrá responsabilidad de supervisión sobre un Inspector de Carros de Ferrocarril en México.
GATX, una de las compañías de arrendamiento de carros de ferrocarril más grandes del mundo, recibe hasta 3,000 carros nuevos al año. Los esfuerzos del “QARI” están enfocados en maximizar la calidad, el valor y la confiabilidad de los carros adquiridos por GATX en plantas de manufactura en México, cumpliendo al mismo tiempo con los requisitos de GATX y de sus clientes.
Responsibilities:
- Perform in-process inspections throughout all phases of manufacturing and conduct final inspections of railcars prior to shipment.
- Ensure railcar quality and workmanship meet required standards; partner with the manufacturer to address nonconformances and drive continuous improvement.
- Participate in specification and drawing review meetings.
- Document, report, and track quality issues and nonconformances as they arise to ensure builder adherence to quality standards.
- Finalize acceptance of railcars for shipment.
- Coordinate with customer inspectors and facilitate customer visits, as needed.
- Meet and collaborate with the railcar manufacturing support team (including plant management and Quality Assurance) to ensure adherence to builder/engineering specifications and GATX and customer requirements.
- Audit QA documentation to confirm it is accurate, current, and being followed; verify the physical railcar matches supporting records.
- Work with Manufacturing and Quality Assurance to bring defects into compliance and complete required rework.
- Observe safe work practices in a heavy-industry environment in compliance with GATX and railcar supplier manufacturing plant safety policies.
- Represent GATX’s interests and interact daily with railcar manufacturing personnel at all levels and across departments, including Production and Quality Assurance.
Responsabilidades principales:
- Realizar inspecciones durante el proceso en todas las fases de manufactura y llevar a cabo inspecciones finales de los carros de ferrocarril antes de su envío.
- Asegurar que la calidad y la mano de obra cumplan con los estándares requeridos; colaborar con el fabricante para abordar no conformidades e impulsar la mejora continua.
- Participar en reuniones de revisión de especificaciones y planos.
- Documentar, reportar y dar seguimiento a problemas de calidad y no conformidades conforme surjan, asegurando el cumplimiento de los estándares de calidad.
- Finalizar la aceptación de los carros de ferrocarril para su envío.
- Coordinar con inspectores de clientes y facilitar visitas, según sea necesario.
- Colaborar con el equipo de soporte de manufactura (incluyendo gerencia de planta y Aseguramiento de Calidad) para garantizar el cumplimiento de especificaciones y requisitos de GATX y de los clientes.
- Auditar documentación de Aseguramiento de Calidad para confirmar precisión, vigencia y cumplimiento; verificar que el carro físico coincida con los registros.
- Trabajar con Manufactura y Aseguramiento de Calidad para corregir defectos y completar retrabajos requeridos.
- Observar prácticas de trabajo seguras en un entorno de industria pesada, conforme a las políticas de seguridad de GATX y de los proveedores.
- Representar los intereses de GATX e interactuar diariamente con personal de manufactura en todos los niveles y departamentos, incluyendo Producción y Aseguramiento de Calidad.
Qualifications:
- Minimum of 5 years freight railcar manufacturing experience
- Quality Assurance and railcar inspection experience within a railcar manufacturing plant
- Knowledge of railcar types and components and ensuring compliance with engineering standards, industry standards, and customer requirements
- Weld inspection experience, AWS CWI training (certification preferred)
- Railcar interior and exterior coatings experience (NACE certification preferred)
- NDT performance and evaluation experience
- Current passport or ability to obtain passport if required.
- Ability to read and write and communicate effectively in Spanish and English.
- Read and interpret documents such as specifications, blueprints/drawings, and Quality Assurance reports
- Ability to use Microsoft Excel, Word, and Email
Other (i.e., physical requirements, travel, etc. that is not covered above):
- The “QARI” will live in Mexico and reside within commuting distance of a base railcar manufacturing location in Northern Mexico such as Monclova or Sabinas and will need to be at those locations daily.
- Inspection - Visual evaluation and dimensional measurement, as required, including use of inspection equipment (weld gauges, mil gauges, etc.)
- Physical activity – Walking throughout railcar manufacturing facilities indoors and outdoors within heavy industry environment including inherent tripping and fall hazards. Climbing on, under, and into railcars both during and after construction including standing or kneeling for car inspections.

Requisitos:

- Conocimiento de tipos y componentes de carros de ferrocarril y de cumplimiento de estándares de ingeniería, de la industria y de clientes
- Experiencia en inspección de soldadura; capacitación AWS CWI (certificación preferida)
- Experiencia en recubrimientos interiores y exteriores (certificación NACE preferida)
- Experiencia en ensayos no destructivos (NDT)
- Pasaporte vigente o capacidad para obtenerlo
- Capacidad para leer, escribir y comunicarse eficazmente en español e inglés
- Capacidad para interpretar especificaciones, planos y reportes de calidad
- Manejo de Microsoft Excel, Word y correo electrónico
Otros requisitos (condiciones físicas y del entorno):
El “QARI” deberá residir en México y vivir a una distancia razonable de una planta de manufactura en el norte del país, como Monclova o Sabinas, siendo necesaria la presencia diaria en dichas instalaciones.
- Inspección: Evaluación visual y medición dimensional utilizando equipo especializado (medidores de soldadura, de espesor, etc.).
- Actividad física: Desplazamiento constante dentro de instalaciones industriales en interiores y exteriores, con riesgos inherentes (tropiezos y caídas). Subir, bajar e ingresar a carros de ferrocarril durante y después de su construcción, incluyendo permanecer de pie o de rodillas para realizar inspecciones.
Esta es una contratación corporativa, pero el puesto estará ubicado en México. El tiempo se dividirá entre Monclova y Sabinas, y se requerirá que la persona esté presente en una de estas instalaciones cinco días a la semana
