The Fabrication Expeditor is responsible for controlling the flow of raw material, work-in-process (WIP), and completed shop orders through a high-mix aerospace machine shop consisting of approximately 68 work centers. This position ensures material and shop orders move through each routing step on schedule, minimizes queue time between operations, and supports fabrication schedule attainment. The role serves as the primary coordinator of material movement between the Raw Material Stockroom, fabrication work centers, Inspection, Receiving, Outside Processing (OSP), and the Finished Goods Stockroom.
The Expeditor partners closely with Fabrication Scheduling, Production Supervisors, Fabrication Management, Inspection, Receiving, Outside Processing, CNC Programming, Tool Crib, and Stockroom personnel to maintain continuous material flow and quickly identify and escalate barriers to production.
Responsibilities:- Follow shop order routing sequences and ensure material moves to the next required operation without delay.
- Move and coordinate WIP between milling, turning, grinding, gear shaping, gear hobbing, lapping, polishing, deburring, Inspection, Receiving, Outside Processing, and other fabrication work centers.
- Coordinate daily priorities with the Fabrication Scheduler, Production Supervisors, and Fabrication Manager.
- Ensure priority shop orders are physically available at the next operation when scheduled.
- Move completed shop orders promptly to the next routing step.
- Coordinate movement of raw material, including castings, bar stock, plate, and blocks, from the Raw Material Stockroom to fabrication work centers in support of production priorities.
- Coordinate movement of completed shop orders and finished components to the Finished Goods Stockroom or next required operation.
- Coordinate movement of parts to and from Outside Processing suppliers and through the Outside Processing office.
- Coordinate with Receiving to ensure returned material is routed promptly to the next required operation.
- Coordinate with Inspection to move completed parts back into production flow.
- Coordinate with CNC Programming and Tool Crib personnel to support priority jobs requiring setup sheets, tool lists, fixtures, gages, and tool kits.
- Sort and stage materials at machine work centers according to production priorities.
- Ensure materials, tooling, and required documentation are available before scheduled production starts.
- Monitor WIP and identify shop orders experiencing excessive queue time between operations.
- Maintain visibility of material location throughout the fabrication process.
- Escalate schedule risks, material shortages, inspection delays, OSP delays, routing issues, and production bottlenecks to the Fabrication Scheduler, Production Supervisor, and Fabrication Manager.
- Support daily production meetings by communicating the status of critical and priority shop orders.
- Follow all safety policies and procedures.
