Pay Rate $30/hr Minimum Experience/Education
Bachelor's degree in Architecture, Industrial Design, Engineering Technology, Manufacturing Technology, Construction Management, Mechanical Engineering Technology, or a closely related field; or an equivalent combination of education and progressively responsible professional fabrication experience.
Experience operating and maintaining fabrication equipment within an academic, research, manufacturing, or professional fabrication environment.

Duties and Responsibilities
The Fabrication Laboratory Specialist provides technical support for instructional, research, and fabrication activities while maintaining the safe and efficient operation of the School's fabrication laboratories.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Provide technical instruction, certification, and hands-on training in the safe operation of woodworking, metalworking, CNC machining, robotic fabrication, laser cutting, and additive manufacturing equipment.
Operate, configure, troubleshoot, and support advanced fabrication equipment including:
AXYZ 3-axis CNC Router
Laguna 3-axis CNC Router
KUKA KR60 HA industrial robotic arm
3D Potter large-format clay printer
CO laser cutters
FDM 3D printers
Conventional woodworking and metalworking machinery
Assist students, faculty, and researchers in selecting appropriate fabrication methods, materials, tooling, machine settings, workholding strategies, and production workflows.
Support CAD/CAM workflows by assisting with digital file preparation, toolpath generation, machine setup, and fabrication planning.
Serve as a technical resource for fabrication equipment by diagnosing and resolving mechanical, software, tooling, and operational issues affecting laboratory users.
Perform preventive maintenance, calibration, alignment, routine service, and minor repairs on fabrication equipment to maximize reliability and minimize downtime.
Monitor equipment condition, maintain maintenance records, and coordinate major repairs with vendors and manufacturers as needed.
Assist with installation, commissioning, testing, and implementation of new equipment, tooling, and fabrication technologies.
Support faculty research initiatives, sponsored research, design-build projects, exhibitions, and special fabrication projects.
Maintain inventories of tools, replacement parts, consumable materials, and safety supplies while recommending purchases to support laboratory operations.
Enforce laboratory safety policies, equipment operating procedures, and School of Architecture regulations while exercising independent technical judgment regarding equipment use and user readiness.
Monitor laboratory activities, identify operational or safety concerns, and respond appropriately to maintain a safe working environment.
Maintain records related to equipment maintenance, user certifications, inventories, and laboratory operations.
Perform other duties as assigned in support of the instructional and research mission of the School of Architecture.

Any non-permanent employee hired to work less than 30 hours per week (cumulative of all positions or designated as variable hour worker - i.e. student workers) are measured during designated measurement periods.
