Position Overview

Stand-By Personnel is seeking an experienced Fabrication Lead to join a second-shift fabrication team in Sand Springs. This is a hands-on working lead position responsible for performing advanced fabrication and welding while providing day-to-day guidance, training, and support to other fabricators and welders.

The ideal candidate has extensive fabrication experience, strong multi-process welding skills, and a solid understanding of ASME quality requirements. This position works directly alongside the crew while helping coordinate workflow, maintain quality standards, and develop less-experienced employees.

Required Experience & Skills

• 3–5 years of fabrication and welding experience in a shop environment
• High school diploma or GED required
• Strong knowledge of ASME quality control procedures
• Proficiency with GTAW (TIG), GMAW (MIG), FCAW (Flux Core), and SMAW (Stick) welding processes
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints, fabrication drawings, and engineering specifications
• Strong fitting, layout, welding, grinding, and assembly skills
• Demonstrated ability to train or mentor less-experienced employees
• Strong attention to quality and dimensional accuracy
• Effective communication and hands-on leadership skills
• Strong commitment to OSHA requirements and workplace safety

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

• Perform fabrication, layout, fitting, welding, grinding, and assembly according to blueprints and specifications
• Clamp, position, fit, and tack-weld components in preparation for final welding
• Perform TIG, MIG, Flux Core, and Stick welding as required
• Lead by example by demonstrating proper welding, fitting, and safe work practices
• Provide day-to-day direction and mentoring to assigned fabricators and welders
• Assist with coordinating workflow and prioritizing daily production activities
• Monitor productivity and help ensure projects remain on schedule
• Inspect workpieces for dimensional accuracy and conformance to drawings
• Verify weld quality and fabrication work meet applicable ASME requirements
• Train new and less-experienced employees on equipment, tools, procedures, and fabrication techniques
• Operate forklifts, overhead cranes, and other equipment to support fabrication activities
• Complete production documentation, quality records, and job-hour reporting accurately
• Report equipment issues, safety concerns, quality problems, and workflow challenges to the Fabrication Foreman or Production Manager
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment
• Follow all company safety procedures, OSHA requirements, and quality standards

Leadership & Mentoring Responsibilities

This position does not have formal supervisory authority but provides day-to-day direction, training, and mentoring under the oversight of the Fabrication Foreman and Production Manager.

• Provide task direction and hands-on guidance
• Train and mentor less-experienced fabricators and welders
• Reinforce proper fabrication and welding techniques
• Assist employees with blueprint and specification interpretation
• Perform quality checks and identify workmanship concerns
• Promote safe work practices and proper equipment operation
• Help maintain productivity and production schedules
• Escalate significant production or personnel concerns to department leadership

Preferred Qualifications

• Two-year technical degree or vocational certificate in welding or fabrication
• Previous fabrication lead or mentoring experience
• Extensive ASME fabrication experience
• Advanced multi-process welding experience
• Forklift and overhead crane experience
• Experience coordinating shop workflow and production priorities

Physical Requirements

• Ability to stand for extended periods throughout the shift
• Frequent walking, reaching, bending, kneeling, stooping, and fabrication activity
• Ability to ascend and descend ladders
• Ability to lift and move up to 50 lbs
• Ability to safely operate welding, grinding, fabrication, forklift, and crane equipment
• Required visual abilities include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and focus adjustment
• Ability to perform physically demanding fabrication work throughout an extended shift

Work Environment

• Non-temperature-controlled industrial fabrication shop
• Exposure to loud noise, dust, dirt, metal particles, welding fumes, sparks, and industrial equipment
• Required PPE includes hearing protection, safety glasses with side shields, welding hoods, grinding shields, and OSHA-compliant safety footwear
• Safety harnesses and additional PPE may be required depending on assigned work
• No travel required for this position
