Position Overview -

AJM Packaging Corporation, one of America’s leading manufacturers of paper products, including paper plates, cups, bowls and bags, is seeking a skilled Fabricator to add to our growing team! The Fabricator is responsible for cutting, shaping, assembling, and welding metal and other materials to create parts and products according to specifications.

Responsibilities & Duties -

• Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and technical specifications to understand project requirements.
• Measure and cut raw materials such as steel, aluminum, and other metals using tools like saws, shears, and plasma cutters.
• Shape materials using equipment such as brakes, rolls, presses, manual Bridgeport, lathe, drill press, cut off saw and grinders.
• Assemble components by welding, bolting, or riveting, ensuring accurate alignment and fit.
• Operate welding machines, including MIG, TIG, and stick welders to join metal parts.
• Inspect completed assemblies to ensure they meet quality standards and specifications.
• Perform routine maintenance on fabrication tools and equipment.
• Collaborate with Engineers and other team members to resolve fabrication issues and improve processes.
• Prepare and finish metal surfaces to ensure they are ready for painting.
• Maintain a clean and organized work area, following all safety protocols and regulations.
• Keep accurate records of materials used, time spent, and tasks completed.
• All other tasks assigned.

Minimum Requirements -

• High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required.
• Technical training in fabrication, welding, or a related field is preferred.
• 2+ years of experience in metal fabrication or a similar role.
• Proficiency in reading and interpreting technical drawings and blueprints
• Skilled in the use and setup of fabrication tools such as saws, shears, presses, welders, drill presses, sanders, grinders, manual Bridgeports, and manual lathes.

About Us -

AJM was originally founded as a distributor of commercial paper, plastic and foil packaging products and related cleaning, janitorial and order processing supplies and equipment by three (3) Detroit area brothers operating out of a small warehouse in Detroit’s Eastern Market. In 1957 they built and moved into slightly larger quarters on Detroit’s southwest side, where, for the very first time, they began manufacturing their own products. Over the ensuing decades, AJM gradually evolved from its broadline distributor beginnings into a major paper products manufacturer, today employing nearly 3,000 people and operating eight (8) manufacturing and five (5) warehouse/distribution facilities strategically located throughout the United States.
