    Description

Gigafactory Texas is looking for an Electrical Power Monitoring System Engineer to join the Facilities team supporting Vehicle, Cell, Data Center & Tesla Energy Programs. Come and join us to help accelerate the world's transition to sustainable energy.

    • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science or the equivalent in experience and evidence of exceptional ability
    • 2-5 years of operational facilities experience (semiconductor, solar, battery, etc.) supporting high-tech infrastructure with a strong focus on Electrical Power Monitoring Systems (EPMS)
    • Experience with Electrical Power Monitoring Systems (EPMS), including metering hardware, software platforms, real-time data acquisition, and power quality analysis
    • Working knowledge of medium-voltage and low-voltage distribution systems, including substations, switchgear, protective relays, and ability to read electric utility system drawings (one-lines, three-lines, schematics, etc.)
    • Familiarity with electric utility system safe work practices in accordance with OSHA, HAZMAT safety protocols, and applicable codes/standards (e.g., IEEE C37, C57); National Electrical Code, NFPA 70E, and IEEE 1584
    • Knowledge of NEC NFPA 70, NFPA 70B, NETA-ATS, NETA-MTS, IEEE 519 (power quality), and electrical OEM recommendations for monitoring and metering equipment
    • Design, implement, operate, improve, and troubleshoot facility Electrical Power Monitoring Systems (EPMS), including metering infrastructure, data acquisition, dashboards, and integration with substations, switchgear, transformers, grounding systems, and protective relays
    • Manage EPMS device network configuration across substations, panels, ATS, relays, UPS, breakers, and other assets-installing data cables, assigning IPs/MACs with proper gateways/subnets, and coordinating with internal teams for programming and communication validation
    • Conduct alarm rationalization, develop alarm cards, enhance Device Driver functionality, and perform Modbus/DNP3 mapping for EPMS devices and assets
    • Leverage EPMS data to support electrical distribution improvements and resiliency initiatives through system risk analysis, power quality metrics, harmonic analysis, trend monitoring, and advanced detection techniques
    • Troubleshoot electrical system issues using EPMS data for breaker coordination studies, arc flash assessments, protective relay performance verification, Sequence of Operations analysis, and SCADA integration
    • Support critical sparing strategies and procurement of EPMS equipment, metering devices, and temporary monitoring solutions to ensure system reliability and uptime
    • Utilize CMMS for scheduling reactive and preventive maintenance of EPMS assets; help standardize electrical monitoring points and metering infrastructure across facilities
    • Collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams to design, optimize, and maintain EPMS integration with electrical assets, enabling real-time visibility and data-driven decision-making
    • Provide engineering support and training to facility technicians on using EPMS tools for equipment troubleshooting, operation, and maintenance of controllers and systems
    • Oversee EPMS equipment installation, commissioning, operation, and maintenance to meet Tesla-specified performance, reliability, and safety standards; coordinate with stakeholders including Central Utilities, Supercharging, Megapack, Solar, Manufacturing, and IT for seamless data sharing and system optimization
