Position Description

Harris County Precinct 4 is seeking a dedicated and reliable Facilities Assistant to support the daily operations of the Steve Radack Community Center. This hands-on role is essential in maintaining a clean, safe, and welcoming environment for all community members.

The Facilities Assistant is responsible for performing routine facility cleaning, conducting minor repairs, and assisting with basic landscaping to ensure the building, equipment, and surrounding grounds remain in good working condition. This role also supports overall center operations by helping set up rooms for activities, assisting program staff, and providing general support to participants and visitors.

In addition to facility upkeep, the Facilities Assistant will occasionally assist visitors with enrollment and registration in ActiveNet, ensuring accurate data entry and offering support as needed. The position may also assist front desk staff with administrative and clerical tasks, as well as communicate Precinct 4 resources, services, and upcoming events to visitors when appropriate.

This position requires initiative, attention to detail, and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team. Flexibility is essential, as evening and weekend work may be required based on operational needs. The ideal candidate must also be willing to travel to other sites when needed to support additional community centers.

This position reports directly to the Community Center Assistant Manager.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Maintain daily cleanliness of the facility, including trash removal, dusting, window cleaning, vacuuming, sweeping, mopping, and other custodial tasks.

  • Clean and sanitize restrooms.

  • Perform basic repairs and light maintenance, such as replacing bulbs and air filters, unclogging drains, fixing minor leaks, replacing switches, caulking, minor door repairs, and light landscaping (watering, trimming, small-area mowing).

  • Report major damage or building issues.

  • On occasion, provide administrative and clerical support, including answering phones, registering program participants, and data entry.

  • Set up and break down rooms for programs and events.

  • Secure the building after operating hours by locking doors and setting the alarm.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

  • Represents Precinct 4 with professionalism at all times, including assisting constituents and reinforcing center rules as necessary.

  • On occasion, travel to other sites to provide support to additional community centers.
