The City of Carpinteria is Seeking Applications for a

Facilities Attendant (Part-Time)

The current vacancy will be placed at Level II: $21.10/hour

We are looking for a dependable and customer-focused individual to support facility rentals and special events, primarily at the Carpinteria Veterans Memorial Hall. This position helps ensure City facilities are clean, set up, and ready for use, while providing a positive experience for renters and the public.

Duties include opening and closing facilities, setting up and breaking down tables and chairs (up to 40 lbs.), cleaning and restocking supplies, and providing excellent customer service. The ideal candidate is reliable, flexible, and a strong communicator who can work independently.

Available shifts may include Mondays-Sundays 8:00 a.m.-9:30 a.m. and 5:00 p.m.-6:30 p.m.; Wednesdays 7:00 p.m.-9:45 p.m.; Thursdays 6:15 p.m.-9:00 p.m.; Sundays 10:45 a.m.-2:00 p.m. and 3:15 p.m.-6:45 p.m., including holidays.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND BASIC DUTIES

Include but are not limited to the following:

  • Assists with facility rentals, including opening and closing facilities in accordance with scheduled use
  • Sets up and breaks down tables, chairs, and other equipment for events (up to 40 lbs)
  • Cleans and restocks facilities and supplies as needed to maintain readiness and cleanliness standards
  • Ensures a positive renter experience by providing excellent customer service and support during facility use
  • May interact, on a limited basis, with individuals experiencing homelessness and/or their personal belongings in a respectful and appropriate manner
  • Monitors and enforces park and facility user compliance with City permits, agreements, rules, and regulations
  • Conducts security checks of parks, coastal open space lands, recreational trails, and facilities, including monitoring, abating, and reporting unsafe or unhealthy conditions
  • Assists and provides information to private renters and the general public, including but not limited to resolving customer questions, concerns, and/or problems about the use of City facilities
  • Loads and unloads supplies, materials, and equipment
  • Attends to the proper and safe use of City parks, coastal open space lands, recreational trails, and facilities
  • Sets up and takes down audio, video, and lighting equipment, and furniture for rooms, parks/fields, and outdoor venues
  • Coordinates contract caterers/food servers, security, and instructors for meetings and special use events
  • Performs minor maintenance and repairs
  • Performs minor janitorial duties
  • Performs other duties as assigned

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Must be 18 years of age
  • Some customer service or related experience is desirable
  • Must be available to weekends, evenings, holidays, and on-call, as needed.
  • CPR/AED and First Aid Certification or ability to obtain within six (6) months of hire.
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish is desirable

License/Certifications:

All licenses and certificates must be maintained as a condition of employment.

  • A valid California Driver's License is required
  • Satisfactory driving record
  • CPR/First-Aid Certification within 6 months from start of employment.

Knowledge of:

  • Customer service best practices and techniques
  • Methods of preparing indoor and outdoor facilities
  • Practices, methods, and procedures used in the operation and maintenance of parks and facilities
  • Janitorial and preventive maintenance practices, methods, and procedures used in parks and facilities
  • Methods, materials, equipment, tools, and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) used in parks and facilities, as well as work safety practices

Skills/Ability to:

  • Solve problems and recommend solutions in the operation and maintenance of parks, coastal open space lands, recreational trails, and facilities
  • Establish and maintain courteous and effective public relations; exercise initiative in resolving problems
  • Provide customer service and general direction regarding the operation of City facilities, buildings, parks, and grounds; and work effectively as a team member
  • Demonstrate reliability, flexibility, and a positive attitude; communicate effectively with the public and team members
  • Communicate effectively both orally and in writing
  • Understand and follow oral and written instructions
  • Operate audio, video, and lighting equipment; building security and fire alarm systems; and field light time
