Summary:

  • Shift: Monday – Friday, 8am - 4pm
  • Location: Candidate will split time between two facilities that are 12.9 miles apart
    • Facility 1: Catholic Health Saint Charles Hospital, located at 200 Belle Terre Rd, Port Jefferson, NY, 11777
    • Facility 2: Catholic Health Saint Catherine of Siena Medical Center, located at 50 Route 25A, Smithtown, NY, 11787


Responsibilities:

  • Provide performance testing, repair, calibration, and safety testing of medical electronic/electromechanical equipment.
  • Address and assist in making reasonable accommodation for the special needs of each group served specific to age, language, and disability.
  • Aid in the orientation of new employees.
  • Maintain an on-call status.
  • Perform preventive maintenance from scheduled monthly reports and repair medical devices.
  • Evaluate, test, and screen all new and existing medical devices for hazards.
  • Assist the Director in developing safety policies, test procedures, and device efficiency.
  • Function as an active member on various committees.
  • Keep abreast of new technology, testing procedures, and techniques.
  • Consult with Plant Engineering tradesmen and supervisors to expedite job completions.
  • Select, identify, and order repair parts for medical devices.
  • Maintain the technical library of operators and service manuals.
  • Maintain the spare parts inventory.
  • Coordinate in-service training for applicable departments with the Director.
  • Attend formal manufacturer technical service schools.
  • Assist in the installation and wiring of new medical devices/systems.
  • Uncrate and assemble medical equipment.
  • Inspect and test all rental and borrowed medical devices for performance and safety.
  • Install required manufacturer modifications or upgrades with minimum supervision.
  • Assist in a snow emergency and other weather or life-threatening emergencies.


Requirements:

  • Associate degree in Electronics or Electronic Technical Trade School.
  • 1-year Biomedical Technician experience; independently managing a facility as a Biomedical Equipment Tech (sole/lead technician experience).
  • Capable of reading and interpreting electronic schematic drawings.
  • Analytical, communication, and troubleshooting skills.


Preferred Skills:

  • Basic knowledge, principles, and theories of electricity/electronics.
  • Familiarity with the use and safe operation of electronic, electro/mechanical test equipment.
  • Total familiarity with Windows 2000 and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Basic typing, data entry, and record-keeping skills.


Physical Requirements:

  • Position requires standing for long periods interspersed with walking to and from various locations.
  • Excellent verbal and listening skills required for communicating clearly and effectively with others.
  • Ability to bend, stretch, reach, and handle/finger delicate items.
  • Ability to carry, lift, and/or lower up to 15 lbs.
