    Position Summary

    The Facilities Electrician is responsible for installing, maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing electrical systems and equipment across the organization’s facilities. This role helps ensure safe, reliable, and efficient facility operations that support the nonprofit’s mission, programs, staff, clients, volunteers, and visitors. The ideal candidate is service-oriented, safety-focused, and able to balance technical expertise with the collaborative, mission-driven culture of a nonprofit environment.


    Duties and Responsibilities:

    • Install, inspect, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair electrical systems, fixtures, wiring, panels, breakers, outlets, switches, lighting, motors, controls, and related equipment.

    • Perform preventive maintenance to reduce downtime, improve energy efficiency, and extend the life of facility electrical systems.

    • Diagnose electrical issues using appropriate testing equipment and safely complete repairs in accordance with applicable codes and organizational procedures.

    • Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, technical manuals, work orders, and equipment specifications.

    • Support maintenance of emergency lighting, generators, transfer switches, fire alarm interfaces, security systems, and other life-safety-related electrical components as assigned.

    • Respond to routine and urgent maintenance requests in a timely, professional manner.

    • Respond to all duties and tasks in a timely manner.

    • Take/Acknowledge all phone calls, emails, and text messages and respond to communications in a timely manner.

    • Ability to adjust the workday hours accordingly for possible higher priority redirection of services/tasks as necessary.

    • Assist with facility renovation, remodeling, and construction projects by coordinating electrical work with internal staff, contractors, and vendors.

    • Maintain accurate records of work performed, materials used, inspections completed, and repairs needed.

    • Monitor electrical supply inventory and communicate material needs to the appropriate supervisor.

    • Follow all safety protocols, lockout/tagout procedures, and applicable federal, state, and local electrical codes.

    • Provide courteous service and clear communication to staff, program teams, clients, volunteers, visitors, and community partners.

    • Perform other facilities and maintenance duties as assigned to support organizational operations.

    • Perform daily duties and tasks in a courteous, timely, and professional manner.

    • Maintain a standard of ethics, conduct, and personal appearance.

    • Support all other Facilities Staff and Facilities Technician tasks, projects, and workload.


    Required Qualifications:

    • High school diploma or equivalent required; completion of an electrical apprenticeship, vocational training, or related technical program preferred.

    • Minimum of three years of experience performing electrical installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair in a commercial, institutional, nonprofit, education, healthcare, or similar facility setting.

    • Current electrician license, journeyman certification, or ability to obtain required licensure as applicable by state or local regulation.

    • Working knowledge of the National Electrical Code and applicable local building and safety codes.

    • Ability to safely use electrical testing equipment, hand tools, power tools, ladders, lifts, and maintenance equipment.

    • Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, follow written and verbal instructions, and respond appropriately to urgent facility needs.

    • Strong communication, teamwork, problem-solving, and customer service skills.

    • Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record may be required depending on facility locations and organizational needs.


    Preferred Qualifications:

    • Experience working in mission-driven, nonprofit, community service, healthcare, behavioral health, education, housing, or social service environments.

    • Experience with energy management systems, backup power systems, security systems, access control, low-voltage systems, or building automation systems.

    • Basic knowledge of general facility maintenance, including plumbing, HVAC, carpentry, and mechanical systems.

    • Bilingual ability or experience serving diverse communities is a plus, depending on organizational needs.


    Physical Requirements and Work Environment:

    • Ability to stand, walk, climb, bend, kneel, crouch, reach, pull, push, and work from ladders or lifts as needed.

    • Ability to lift and carry tools, equipment, and materials up to [insert weight requirement] pounds with or without reasonable accommodation.

    • Work may occur indoors and outdoors, including mechanical rooms, ceilings, confined spaces, rooftops, and areas with exposure to noise, dust, weather, or electrical hazards.

    • May be required to respond to after-hours emergencies, on-call needs, or occasional weekend/evening work.
