Akkodis is recruiting for a Faciliites engineer for a semoconductor manufacturer in the Niskayuna, NY area.
This is an onsite contract position with a pay range of $45 an hour to $60 an hour depending on experience, education and loaction.
Summary
The Lead Maintenance Equipment Engineer will troubleshoot and repair failures in semiconductor tools supporting microelectronics cleanroom operations. The role requires timely business-critical decisions to meet safety, quality, delivery, and cost goals.
Key Responsibilities
Troubleshoot semiconductor equipment failures, identify root causes, and recommend corrective actions.
Perform repairs or lead others in executing solutions.
Become the technical expert on maintenance of semiconductor tools, including Diffusion/CVD, RIE, Lithography, PVD, Wets, and ancillary equipment.
Collaborate closely with Operations and Engineering teams, providing updates on equipment performance, critical repair schedules, and downtime metrics.
Act as the primary contact for equipment OEMs and parts vendors.
Recommend equipment upgrades and minor redesigns to prevent future breakdowns, especially on legacy systems.
Lead and mentor technical team members, assigning priorities and demonstrating repairs.
Schedule and lead preventive maintenance to optimize equipment uptime and performance.
Manage spare parts inventory and anticipate needed parts.
Work with skilled trades for tool repairs, installations, and decommissioning.
Participate in continuous improvement initiatives (Lean, 5S).
Identify opportunities to reduce operating expenses and improve system capabilities.
Engage actively in safety initiatives and maintain cleanroom protocol compliance.
Flexible start time (7-8 am), with possible on-call duties for emergencies.
Required Qualifications
AAS Degree in Mechanical or Electrical field.
10+ years of maintenance experience with semiconductor equipment, especially legacy tools and control systems.
Strong knowledge of hand and power tools, software, and machine applications. Ability to read and interpret schematics.
Experience with PLCs and component-level troubleshooting of electrical, electronic, and mechanical systems including robotics, controllers, DC power supplies, RF generators, lasers, vacuum systems, gas and chemical delivery.
Must be able to obtain a government clearance.
Desired Qualifications
BS Degree in Engineering.
15+ years of semiconductor equipment maintenance experience.
Industry-relevant experience, ideally with large semiconductor companies and cleanroom tools.
Familiarity with PPAP (Production Part Approval Process) and quality systems.
Experience troubleshooting vacuum systems, electronic repairs (preferably 50/50 mechanical/electrical).
Mid to late-career professionals with hands-on experience in similar environments.

Pay Details: $45.00 to $60.00 per hour
