Job Title: Facilities Lead Technician

Overview:
Become an integral part of the Edelman Fossil Park & Museum by joining us as a Facilities
Lead Technician. In this key role, you'll ensure our museum and park remain pristine, safe, and
welcoming for all visitors. This role is perfect for someone with a blend of technical know-how, a
keen eye for detail, and dedication to creating a positive visitor experience. This position assists
the Director of Facilities in oversight and leadership of the Janitorial and Maintenance teams.
Responsibilities:
● Oversight & Leadership: Provide leadership and technical expertise/guidance for the
General Maintenance Technicians. Provide oversight for the Janitorial Team including
scheduling, task assignments, routine follow-up inspections of spaces helping to ensure
a positive environment for visitors and staff.
● Facility Maintenance: Conduct routine, preventive, and emergency maintenance to
maintain the functionality and appearance of our facilities. Perform inspections and
perform maintenance of the buildings, grounds, and exhibits promptly. Ensure systems
such as plumbing, electrical, and HVAC are operating correctly, maintaining our
museum's safety and security standards.
● Groundskeeping: Keep our outdoor areas beautiful, clean, and safe. Manage our
native organic landscaping and maintain the health and appearance of our green
spaces, including mowing, trimming, weeding, cultivating, and trail maintenance. Ensure
effective stormwater management and keep exterior areas hazard-free, especially during
adverse weather conditions.
● Exhibit Support: Work closely with the exhibit and curatorial staff to prepare and
maintain exhibit spaces. Help install, dismantle, and maintain exhibit elements,
maintaining cleanliness and optimal functioning of interactive displays.
● Equipment Maintenance: Regularly inspect and maintain operational tools, vehicles,
and machinery. Liaise with external vendors for specialized maintenance to ensure all
equipment is in top condition.
● Event Support: Provide logistical support for events, assisting with set-up, execution,
and cleanup to ensure smooth operation and a positive experience for all attendees.

Provide oversight of the Event Porter function including scheduling, task assignment and
when possible, inspections of areas of responsibility.

Qualifications:
● Minimum high school diploma or equivalent; technical certifications highly regarded. A
college degree is a plus.
● Experience in general maintenance and janitorial roles. Experience specifically at a
museum, park, nature center, zoo, or similar environments is a strong plus.
● Familiarity with basic systems including plumbing, electrical, HVAC, and carpentry.
Expertise in one or more of these areas is a plus.
● Familiarity with basic cleaning practices and equipment.
● Independent problem-solving abilities with physical fitness to perform maintenance
tasks, and a willingness to work hard.
● Strong communication skills and a collaborative spirit.
● Availability to work in emergency situations and flexible hours including weekends,
holidays, and evenings as necessary.
● A dedication to the museum’s mission of combating the climate and biodiversity crises
by exemplifying best practices in sustainability. These practices include maintaining a
native, pesticide-free, regenerative landscape, using humane methods for pest control,
composting, recycling, minimizing waste, reducing carbon emissions, and aligning facility
operations with our educational goals.
● Valid driver’s license required.
Work Setting:
● Museum headquarters is located in the lower level of the stunning new Edelman Fossil
Park Museum. The headquarters suite features a reception area, private offices, a large
open office area, three conference rooms, a kitchenette, team lounge, and outdoor patio,
situated adjacent to a 4-acre lake. The Facilities Lead Technician is based out of the
Engineering Office immediately adjacent to headquarters.
● This is a full-time position with G&A Museum Operation, LLC, based at the Edelman
Fossil Park & Museum, in Mantua Township, NJ
● The role requires one weekend day in the schedule and may require occasional evening
or weekend work for special events or meetings as needed.
● The role will require frequent work outdoors in all weather conditions.
● This role requires the ability to lift at least 75 lbs. regularly.
