Brief Description

Job SummaryUnder regular direction and in compliance with standard operating procedures and policies, conducts scheduled maintenance on the Greenville Transit Authority (GTA) Operations & Maintenance Facility, Greenlink Terminal, and over 500 bus stops and shelters. Replaces bus stop signs and inspects bus shelters and stops for damage or wear to ensure safe and clean conditions. Diagnoses and repairs issues with solar lighting, and other bus stop technology components, including installing and commissioning replacement parts. Works with Greenlink Facilities Team and contractors to perform installation of new bus shelters. Performs plumbing, painting, HVAC, electrical, sheetrock finishing, and glass repair/installation. Assists Facilities Technicians in cleaning terminal by performing such tasks as pressure washing facilities and snow removal. Fills in for Facilities Technicians or Custodians as assigned.

  • Perform Shelter & Bus Stop Maintenance/Repair: Perform repairs and routine maintenance on Greenlink bus shelters and bus stops. Replace bus stop signs, update mounting hardware, and install new signage as required. Inspect shelters and stops for damage or wear, repairing structural components, panels, fasteners, benches, and other amenities to ensure safe and clean conditions. Diagnose and repair issues with solar lighting, batteries, electronic signs and other bus stop technology components, including installing and commissioning replacement parts. Work with Greenlink Facilities Team and contractors to perform installation of new bus shelters. Trim branches, vegetation, and overgrowth around bus stops and shelters to maintain visibility, accessibility, and safety. Remove litter and debris from stop areas as needed. Document and report damage, missing equipment, safety concerns, or incident conditions (including photos taken with phone and supporting information) to the Facilities Maintenance Supervisor, and complete assigned corrective actions. Assist with completing maintenance requests submitted through the Facilities Maintenance Request form by staff, customers, or operators. Ensure that maintenance activities align with the Greenlink Bus Stop Design Guide and Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) access standards. Support site restoration or infrastructure removal efforts when bus stop agreements change, including removing stop components and restoring grounds to required conditions.

  • Perform Facility Maintenance/Repair: Perform routine maintenance and basic repairs at the Greenlink Terminal and the GTA Operations & Maintenance Facility. Replace bulbs and LED drivers, and perform minor electrical work such as replacing outlets, tightening connections, resetting breakers, and installing small devices (e.g., intercoms or dispensers). Conduct minor plumbing tasks, including clearing drains, replacing valves, repairing or replacing toilets and sink faucets, and addressing small leaks. Support general facility upkeep by moving fixtures, assembling or installing basic equipment, and mounting items such as signage, dispensers, shelving, or brackets. Perform basic painting and touch-up work on walls and surfaces. Assist with HVAC upkeep by performing minor diagnostic checks, resetting systems, replacing filters, and confirming basic operational functionality, reporting advanced issues to the Facilities Maintenance Supervisor. Conduct monthly facility inspections to ensure key systems, fixtures, equipment, and safety components are functioning properly, documenting and reporting deficiencies requiring higher-level maintenance or contractor involvement. Provide labor support to the Facilities Maintenance Supervisor on more complex repairs, installations, or technical projects by preparing work areas, gathering materials, establishing basic temporary traffic control as appropriate, and completing assigned portions of tasks. Support seasonal preparation efforts such as applying ice melt and assisting with snow and ice response. Coordinate with vendors and contractors during onsite work, assist with access and safety needs, and help procure small materials or replacement components following approved purchasing processes. Identify and report facility issues that require skilled trades or external service providers.

Qualifications

Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Over two (2) years of experience in facilities maintenance, electrical repairs, or general maintenance.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Journeyman electrical, plumbing, and HVAC certifications.

Drivers License Requirements

  • Valid South Carolina Class D Drivers License.

  • Proper use personal protective equipment (PPE).

Ability to:

  • Safely operate a City vehicle, with or without a small utility trailer, under various environmental conditions.
  • Diagnose and repair facility systems and equipment.
  • Perform semi-skilled facility maintenance, including basic electrical, plumbing, HVAC support, carpentry, and painting tasks.
  • Safely and effectively use, operate, and maintain equipment and tools, including pressure washers and basic hand and power tools.
  • Perform heavy manual labor, including lifting, carrying, bending, kneeling, and working in confined or elevated spaces.
  • Inspect, maintain, and safely use ladders, scaffolding, or elevated work surfaces.
  • Troubleshoot and replace solar lighting and related technology components at bus stops and shelters.
  • Work safely in roadside/right-of-way environments and set up basic temporary traffic control when needed.
  • Perform basic site preparation and restoration related to bus stop and shelter installation or removal.
