Safely performs journeyman level tasks in the construction, maintenance, alteration and repair of fixtures, equipment, structures, buildings, and built-in components for Texas Tech facilities. Works under general supervision with moderate latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment. Performs work to complete and assist with maintenance, repair and operational duties of building systems on campus and associated equipment. Areas of work include construction, electrical, alarm systems, elevator systems, plumbing, carpentry and painting. Essential functions are performed with emphasis on construction and special events (e.g. set-ups, construction, carpentry, assemble/disassemble furniture, install floor, ceiling tile, paint, etc.). Responds in an effective and efficient manner to standard and urgent calls such as fire and mechanical equipment alarms. Responsible for responding to emergency situations (requiring immediate action). May work a variety of shifts to ensure 24/7 coverage is maintained. Performs and completes basic maintenance and related activities if required.

  • Participates in the Installation, maintenance, operation, and repair of building systems and associated equipment.
  • Works with other trades and maintenance staff to complete maintenance and installation of other building systems.
  • Prepare and submit work documentation, to include work order submission, changes to system (e.g. directories), etc.
  • Updates and maintains as-built construction information in schematic drawings.
  • Install and maintain special systems and equipment such as modular furniture, walls, texture, paint, ceiling tile/grid, water heaters, back flows, controls, valves, swamp pumps, etc.
  • Performs preventive maintenance on assigned building systems and/or equipment.
  • Adjusts, modify or re arrange existing furniture systems to ensure the efficient utilization of building space.
  • Responds to work related service calls on a timely and efficient manner. Responds to emergency calls and/or performs scheduled work after hours, weekends and holidays as required. Work and service calls shall be resolved in a timely and efficient manner.
  • Responsible for keeping all work areas, equipment and tools clean and in excellent working conditions.
  • Performs service work to campus special events and functions. Performs other related and various job duties as assigned.
  • Contributes with knowledge and skilled labor to construction and renovation projects of the institution.
  • Installs, maintains, operates and repairs building systems and associated equipment.
  • Must have and maintain valid State of Texas Drivers License. Must be able to pass the employee Criminal Background Check.
  • Remains current with all licensures, certifications and mandatory compliances and trainings required of this position.

  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
  • Basic knowledge and ability to install, operate and maintain building systems and associated equipment.
  • Skilled in the proper use of tools, equipment and devices used in the construction and maintenance trades.
  • Knowledge of occupational and safety hazards.
  • Wear appropriate PPE specific for the trade & follow processes to prevent accidents.
  • Able to work and respond to emergency calls on weekends, holidays and after hours.
  • Basic understanding of other trades and able to perform or assist in the completion of them.
  • Experience in the installation of metal studs, door frames, doors, texture, tape/bed, paint and flooring is preferred.
