Summary:
The Technician I is responsible for performing general maintenance and landscaping duties across the Gila River Development (GRD) business portfolio and its entities. This role ensures the upkeep and functionality of buildings, field equipment, and landscaped areas while providing support to recycling programs and events. The Maintenance Technician I contributes to a clean, safe, and efficient environment for employees, tenants, and visitors.
Responsibilities:
Building and Facilities Maintenance:
- Replace lamp bulbs, A/C filters, and perform light plumbing repairs.
- Conduct roof inspections and minor repairs as needed.
- Perform pressure washing of sidewalks and exterior areas.
- Set up tables and chairs for departmental meetings and events.
Landscaping and Groundskeeping:
- Carry out landscaping tasks such as tree trimming, mowing, and general grounds maintenance.
- Use chainsaws, weed eaters, and other power tools for landscaping activities.
- Inspect and repair irrigation systems, addressing water leaks across the development.
Janitorial and Recycling Support:
- Provide backup janitorial services, including restroom cleaning.
- Assist with the bulk trash disposal including tilt-bin pickups and waste management.
Equipment Operation:
- Operate hand tools, power tools, and gas-powered small equipment for assigned projects.
- Safely operate the organizations vehicles, including trucks, utility vehicles to transport materials and tools as required.
Emergency and Safety Compliance:
- Respond to maintenance-related emergencies and execute fire, life, and safety procedures.
- Maintain a safe work environment, following all safety protocols and training standards.
Additional Duties:
- Collaborate with facilities staff and other team members to achieve project goals.

Working Conditions:
The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. Work will primarily be performed in an outdoor environment.
- Work will be performed both inside and outside on a regular basis, in most weather conditions.
- Noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
- Evening, weekend, and holiday shifts are required as a normal part of this position.
- Assist with water leaks and other repairs after hours when needed.
- Occasional local day travel, Local travel to managed businesses.
Physical Demands:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, and walk extended period. The employee occasionally is required to bend, climb, stoop, lift, carry, push, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must regularly lift and/or move 25 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 75 pounds.
Required Qualifications:
- High School diploma or GED.
- Two (2) years of experience in general maintenance, landscaping, and using tools/equipment.
- CPR and First Aid Certification within 90 days of hire.
- Flexibility to work evenings and weekends as required for client meetings and events.
- Valid AZ driver's license, provide a 39-month satisfactory MVR report.
- Obtain a Tribal operator driving permit at the time of hire.
- A satisfactory result obtained through a test for illegal drugs.
- Acknowledge and agree to maintain a drug-free workplace.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Basic knowledge of building systems, irrigation systems, and landscaping techniques.
- Familiarity with emergency fire, life, and safety procedures.
- Effective communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Dependable, team-oriented, and able to work collaboratively with diverse groups.
- Strong problem-solving and time management skills.
- Ability to prioritize tasks and maintain focus under pressure.
- Knowledge and experience working with Gila River Indian Community or other Native American Communities.
- Proficient in MS office and other relevant workplace tools.
