    Description

    Title: Facilities Maintenance Technician
    Location: Nashville, TN (Onsite) Hours/Day: 7.5 Hours
    Time Zone: CST
    Duration: 45 Days (Contract is open to extend and convert to FTE based on performance).

    The Facilities Maintenance Technician is a journey-level position responsible for performing a wide variety of semi-skilled and skilled maintenance tasks across an 87-acre school campus. This role ensures a safe, functional, and productive learning environment by maintaining campus facilities, grounds, and equipment in excellent condition. The technician works independently or as part of a team to complete routine repairs, preventative maintenance, and emergency maintenance activities.

    Minimum Qualifications

    • Education: High school diploma, GED, or equivalent.
    • Experience: 2–4 years of progressively responsible experience in general building maintenance and mechanical trades.
    • License: Must possess and maintain a valid State Driver's License.
    • Compliance: Ability to pass a fingerprint and criminal history background check as required by school district regulations.

    Duties and Responsibilities

    • Perform general maintenance and repair of interior and exterior building components, including windows, doors, flooring, drywall, woodwork, shelving, gates, bulletin boards, roofing repairs, and other structural elements.
    • Execute routine plumbing repairs, including unstopping drains and commodes, replacing fixtures, repairing leaks, and maintaining plumbing systems.
    • Perform routine electrical maintenance, including replacing light bulbs, ballasts, transformers, switches, receptacles, rewiring electrical outlets and breaker boxes, and other low-voltage electrical tasks.
    • Carry out minor HVAC maintenance, including changing filters, belts, and motors to ensure efficient system operation.
    • Maintain and support the 87-acre campus grounds by performing landscaping, mowing, planting flowers, sharpening mower blades, changing mower oil and filters, repairing fences, sidewalks, and operating tractors, mowers, and other heavy equipment.
    • Perform preventative maintenance by conducting routine inspections of facilities, equipment, and safety systems to prevent equipment failures and ensure efficient building operations.
    • Complete work orders accurately using computerized maintenance and inventory management systems.
    • Respond to emergency maintenance requests and remain available for on-call assignments or overtime as required to support uninterrupted school operations.
    • Prioritize daily maintenance tasks to meet operational requirements and deadlines.
    • Operate and maintain a variety of hand tools, power tools, sewer rodders, drills, saws, grinders, and other maintenance equipment safely and efficiently.
    • Inspect electrical, plumbing, mechanical, HVAC, laundry, and food service equipment, identify maintenance issues, replace defective parts, and report major repairs when necessary.
    • Perform routine repairs on facility equipment and complete minor construction, welding, and carpentry projects as assigned.
    • Conduct daily facility inspections to verify safe and proper operating conditions throughout campus.
    • Review preventative maintenance schedules and complete routine servicing to maximize equipment life and building efficiency.
    • Assist with inventory management by monitoring maintenance supplies, tools, equipment, and replacement parts, and reporting inventory requirements to supervisors.
    • Read and interpret work orders, maintenance manuals, diagrams, blueprints, and supervisor instructions to determine repair requirements.
    • Communicate effectively with supervisors, staff, vendors, customers, and contractors while providing excellent customer service.
    • Operate state-issued vehicles, including pickup trucks, golf carts, watercraft, or other authorized vehicles as required.
    • Assist with unloading supplies, moving furniture, cubicles, desks, file cabinets, bookshelves, and setting up conference rooms or special event spaces.
    • Record daily work performed, time worked, materials used, and submit leave requests using the organization's Human Resources software.
    • Provide guidance and technical support to team members when needed and assist supervisors with identifying materials and supplies required for maintenance activities.

    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)

    • Knowledge: Thorough understanding of building maintenance practices, carpentry, plumbing, electrical systems, preventative maintenance procedures, OSHA safety regulations, and applicable building codes.
    • Skills: Proficient in operating hand tools, power tools, heavy equipment, maintenance machinery, and computerized maintenance management systems.
    • Abilities:
      • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, construction drawings, maintenance manuals, diagrams, and Safety Data Sheets (SDS).
      • Ability to lift 50–80 lbs and perform physically demanding work in varying weather conditions, confined spaces, and elevated work areas.
      • Strong troubleshooting, problem-solving, organizational, and communication skills.
      • Ability to work independently and collaboratively while maintaining a safe working environment.
      • Ability to interact professionally with students, faculty, staff, vendors, and the public.

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Certifications: Professional certifications are highly preferred, including:
      • Universal EPA/HVAC Certification.
      • Heavy Equipment Operation Certification.
      • OSHA 10-Hour Safety Certification.
      • Electrical or Plumbing Trade License/Certification.
