The Barron Center is looking for a maintenance worker for the City"s 219-bed skilled and long-term care facility. This position will need to know or learn regulations as they apply to long- term care. In addition to codes related to building, fire, electrical, HVAC plumbing, and disaster preparedness, the candidate must have knowledge of the tools, equipment, methods, materials, and skills used in a variety of construction, winter operations and maintenance activities. Ability to plan and organize work on a day-to-day basis is essential. Must be able to communicate clearly and maintain positive relationships with all divisions, residents and families, vendors and other City departments. The candidate must have the ability to make out clear and accurate written reports as required for work records, operating records and accident reports.

Job Summary

The facilities maintenance team performs a variety of semiskilled maintenance work on the building and facilities; including maintaining green space in the spring through fall, and snow removal in the winter. The ideal team member will be a leader that takes pride in their work and values working in a long-term care facility.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • May assist with carpentry, plumbing, electrical and mechanical repairs to buildings, grounds, fences and equipment.

  • Changes and installs lights in buildings; assists with installing, maintaining and repairing electrical equipment.

  • Paints interior and exterior of buildings, rooms, walls, ceilings and other surfaces; tapes, sands and prepares surfaces for painting

  • Makes minor repairs and adjustments to equipment

  • May assist with repairs to HVAC equipment and sprinkler systems

  • Participates in winter operations

Required Skills & Experience:

  • Thorough knowledge of building maintenance and ability to make repairs

  • Physical strength, agility and stamina necessary to withstand exposure to adverse climatic conditions

  • The ability to respond to storm snow removal with the maintenance team

  • Valid Maine Class C license

  • Must have and maintain a good driving record

Expected Hours/Schedule:

This position works 40 hours per week. Schedule to include weekends, rotating holidays, and on-call duties.

Salary & Benefits:

This is a Labor & Trades union position, Grade 16, starting salary range of $22.41/hour - $25.13/hour, depending on experience and qualifications.
