The Maintenance team is organized into two primary functions: Preventative Maintenance and Corrective Maintenance. The Preventative Maintenance group focuses on proactive inspections, scheduled servicing, and asset preservation activities designed to maximize equipment life cycles, improve reliability, and reduce unplanned failures. The Corrective Maintenance group is responsible for responding to service requests, troubleshooting building systems, and performing repairs to address operational issues and restore functionality. Together, these teams ensure that residential facilities remain safe, efficient, and well-maintained for students and staff.

The Maintenance Supervisor is a working supervisory position that reports to the Assistant Director of Facilities. Responsibilities include the supervision of the Maintenance Specialists, Mechanics, and Locksmith, as well as seasonal staff members. This position ensures the efficient and effective use of resources to meet the needs of the residential community.

Responsibilities

Primary Responsibilities

1- Develop work standards and practices for maintenance staff; establish and maintain a priority system for emergency responses based on student and facility needs. Ensures compliance with all applicable safety regulations, building codes and safety requirements.

  • Participates in establishing and scheduling facilities projects and preventative maintenance in residential halls.
  • Interprets and follows blueprints, specifications and technical manuals.
  • Makes daily visual inspections of areas for cleanliness, work progress, and completed work requests.
  1. Responsible for overseeing high quality recruitment, hiring, evaluation, and training of all assigned maintenance staff, and for contribution to their personal and professional development. Delegates to and holds staff responsible for satisfactory performance of work assignments.

  2. Utilizes work order management system to generate, assign and schedule maintenance activities.

  3. Prepares and implements an effective preventive maintenance program for all buildings and facilities.

  4. Coordinates access of outside service contractors for facility repairs, projects, and renovations.

  5. Ensures customer satisfaction by analyzing customer complaints, concerns and suggestions. Provides appropriate follow-through to ensure quality customer service.

  6. Develop and maintain effective collaborative relationships with faculty, staff, and administration in order to collaborate on initiatives that impact Housing & Residential Education as well as utilize the full potential of campus resources available on the university campus with special emphasis on the following: University Guest House and Conference Services, Plant Operations, Space Planning, Campus Design & Construction, and Environmental Health & Safety, Sustainability Office.

Requires a bachelor's (or equivalency) + 4 years or a master's (or equivalency) + 2 years of directly related work experience.

Minimum Qualifications

EQUIVALENCY STATEMENT: 1 year of higher education can be substituted for 1 year of directly related work experience (Example: bachelor's degree = 4 years of directly related work experience).

Senior Supervisor, Facilities Management: Requires a bachelor's (or equivalency) + 4 years or a master's (or equivalency) + 2 years of directly related work experience.

Preferences

  • Bachelor's degree in facilities management, engineering, architecture, construction management, or related field
  • Progressive experience leading a University Housing Maintenance operation.
  • Two-years' experience with building systems control or related experience or equivalency required. Demonstrated knowledge of automated and computer-directed building systems, plumbing and electrical systems and pneumatic and electronic control systems; familiarity with heating and air conditioning systems; a working knowledge and understanding of mechanical equipment, automation and field hardware and demonstrated human relations and effective communication skills also needed
  • Dependent upon department of assignment, a valid Utah driver's license may be needed.
