Under the general direction of the designated supervisor, incumbent performs complex level repairs and installations in a specific trade. Assists and/or oversees maintenance of equipment and systems in assigned areas. Incumbent will be expected to have thorough knowledge in the discipline(s) for which they will be responsible. This job has no supervisory responsibilities.

Responsibilities and Reporting During an Emergency Situation:

Essential Employees may be required to work during a declared emergency. Depending on the nature of the emergency, this may require working around the clock for several days on short notice.

Non Essential Employees will not be required to work during a declared emergency. The employees Department Head will determine when the employee will be required to work.

Duties/Responsibilities

  • Performs skilled to highly skilled trades work in area assigned
  • Performs general maintenance tasks
  • Performs skilled installation and repair/modification, site layout, troubleshooting, diagnostics within assigned trades.
  • Operates various manual and electrical tools in the performance of tasks
  • Under the direction of the designated supervisor, designs and implements preventive maintenance programs to ensure compliance with sanitary and health codes.
  • Clean and repair equipment as needed
  • Participates in on-call duty.
  • May be required to operate a motor vehicle in performance of assigned tasks.
  • This position requires regular and reliable attendance and the employee's physical presence at the workplace
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

When Assigned to Facilities Renovation and Construction:

  • Perform renovation, remodeling, demolition and construction work, including carpentry, drywall, painting, flooring, roof and gutter repair, and minor electrical and plumbing tasks.
  • Perform space modifications, office reconfigurations, and facility upgrades to meet operational and safety standards.
  • Conduct inspections to assess existing conditions and recommend repair or renovation solutions.
  • Have a working knowledge of building systems (electrical, plumbing, HVAC) and general construction methods.
  • Read and interpret construction drawings, blueprints, and specifications.
  • Operate and maintain construction tools, equipment, and machinery in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Ensure all work complies with building codes, safety regulations, and organizational standards.
  • Coordinate with contractors, vendors, and outside service providers as needed.
  • Maintain accurate records of materials, labor, and project progress.
  • Respond to facility-related work orders and provide timely resolutions.
  • Support sustainability and energy-efficiency initiatives in renovation projects.

  • Working knowledge of the operation and maintenance of equipment required for assigned task
  • Knowledgeable in the occupational hazards, safety precautions and personal protective equipment observed in the trade(s) assigned.
  • Knowledgeable in the City and State rules, regulations and protocols.

  • Knowledgeable in basic report and record maintenance principles and practices.
  • Skilled in the efficient and safe operation of trade specific tools and equipment.
  • Skilled in troubleshooting and repair within assigned trade(s).

  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
  • Ability to adapt to performing under frequent deadlines and/or in response to emergencies.
  • Ability to operate vehicles and necessary equipment including but not limited to hand tools.
  • Ability to apply sound judgment and interpretation based on acquired knowledge in circumstances where limited standardization exists.

Minimum Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED. Experience, and/or training that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities can be substituted for the High School diploma or GED.
  • Five years of experience in related field
  • A valid Florida Driver's License with an acceptable driving record.
  • Mandatory Drug/Alcohol Testing required.

Work performed is primarily:

  • Very heavy work: Exerting in excess of 100 pounds of force occasionally and/or in excess of 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or in excess of 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • Tasks are performed outside, subject to weather conditions and uneven terrain, and risk of exposure to toxic agents/chemicals, pathogens, and smoke.
