Summary of Position


The Facilities Manager provides leadership and oversight for all facilities-related operations at St. Joseph’s
Indian School. This position directly supervises key functional teams, including Electrical, HVAC, Carpentry,
Grounds, and Facilities IS/IT, as well as the department’s Administrative Assistant. The Facilities Manager
ensures safe, efficient, and mission-aligned campus operations, collaborates across departments to meet the
needs of students, staff, and programs, and performs some front-line facilities work as needed. This is a
nonexempt position.

Core Responsibilities


• Provides leadership that reflects the mission and values of St. Joseph’s Indian School.
• Fosters a positive, service-oriented culture across departments and daily operations.
• Collaborates with the Support Services Manager on shared services, operational coordination, and
support for campus needs.


Responsibilities


1. Department Oversight and Leadership
• Provides direction and leadership to Electrical, HVAC, Carpentry, Facilities IS/IT, Grounds, and the
Facilities Administrative Assistant.
• Supports team leads in planning, scheduling, staffing, and internal communication.
• Maintains strong working relationships with other departments and leaders to ensure coordinated
support across campus operations.
• Ensures effective, efficient, and high-quality operations across facilities.
2. Facilities Maintenance and Operations
• Approves and monitors maintenance work, repairs, and service requests to ensure timely and effective
resolution.
• Maintains and monitors campus utility systems, including geothermal, HVAC, and electrical systems,
recommending improvements as needed.
• Manages the Metasys building automation system, including coordination with Johnson Controls for
upgrades, service contracts, training, and vendor support.
• Performs front-line facilities work when necessary to meet operational needs.
3. Capital Projects and Budgeting
• Serves as project manager for major construction and renovation projects—assigns work, oversees
contractors, approves expenditures, and ensures quality completion.
• Oversees budgeting and financial planning for facilities operations, including capital projects, budget
development, expenditure monitoring, and responsible stewardship of department resources.
• Approves purchases within assigned areas and trains staff in accounting practices; works closely with
accounting to ensure proper documentation.
4. Energy and Resource Management
• Oversees campus energy conservation efforts and sustainability initiatives.
• Develops and recommends strategies for alternative power sources and resource efficiency.
• Designs and maintains system graphics to monitor and control equipment functionality.
5. Compliance and Safety
• Ensures compliance with safety, health, and environmental regulations.
• Maintains vendor and service contracts related to facilities operations.
6. Additional Responsibilities
• Performs other duties as assigned by the Chief Executive Officer.


Qualifications


• High school diploma required
• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience preferred
• Five+ years of management and supervisory experience
• Master or Contractor License; South Dakota licensure as required
• Valid driver’s license


Physical Demands


• Lift/carry up to 30 lbs. frequently, 50 lbs. occasionally
• Bend, stoop, crouch, climb stairs, and stand for extended periods
• Sustain physical activity without fatigue
• Work outdoors in all weather conditions
Expectations of Hours Worked
• 40 hours per week, with on-call availability as needed
