Title: Facilities Manager


Location: Bronx, NY (Onsite / Campus-Based)

Job Type: Full-Time

Pay rate: $27 to $30 per hour (Commensurate with 5-10 years of experience)

About the Organization:

We are a premier, progressive, and highly innovative non-profit legal defense organization dedicated to transforming how low-income residents in the Bronx are represented in the legal system. With a diverse interdisciplinary staff of over 400 professionals, we utilize a groundbreaking, holistic model to address both the causes and consequences of legal system involvement while pushing for systemic reform.


The Role:

Reporting to the Director of Operations, the Facilities Manager will play a vital role in ensuring our multi-building campus provides a safe, welcoming, and highly functional environment for our staff, clients, and community members. We are seeking a technical professional with a deep commitment to social justice, strong leadership skills, and the mechanical expertise required to manage facility operations seamlessly.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Daily Operations: Direct and oversee facilities, upkeep, and maintenance services across multiple buildings, grounds, and shared workspace environments.
  • Vendor & Staff Management: Supervise and mentor in-house maintenance staff, contracted cleaning services, and external facility vendors.
  • Safety & Compliance: Monitor safety and cleanliness, ensuring all facilities meet government regulations, citywide contractual requirements, and environmental health standards.
  • Emergency Response: Create and enforce emergency protocols; respond rapidly to office/facility emergencies (including occasional after-hours needs).
  • Project & Space Management: Manage space planning, office moves, and internal office-wide events. Solicit vendor bids and draft Scopes of Work.
  • Weather Readiness: Manage facility preparation for inclement weather (snow/ice removal, storm drain clearing, etc.).


Qualifications:

  • Experience: Minimum of 5 years of experience managing complex building services or operations.
  • Technical Skills: Advanced mechanical skills and knowledge of plumbing, HVAC, carpentry, painting, and building systems.
  • Physical Stamina: Ability to perform physical tasks in various weather conditions, lift heavy equipment, and stand/walk for extended periods.
  • Mission Alignment: Demonstrated commitment to working respectfully across diverse backgrounds, raising cultural consciousness, and challenging oppressive institutional practices.


Preferred Skills & Certifications:

  • Construction or project management experience/certification.
  • Engineering or electrical background.
  • Certifications: CPR-PR, AED, First Aid, S-95, F-01.
