POSITION SUMMARY The Facilities Operator is responsible for coordinating and performing a broad range of maintenance, repair, and facilities operations to ensure safe, functional, and well-maintained buildings and grounds. This role supports daily operations through preventive maintenance, work order management, and collaboration with internal staff and external vendors. Note: The Facilities Operator is designated as emergency personnel and may be required to report to work during inclement weather or emergency situations.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Facilities Maintenance, Operations & Compliance
  • Coordinate and perform routine, preventive, and corrective maintenance projects, including but not limited to:
  • Electrical: replacing light bulbs and performing minor electrical repairs
  • Plumbing: repairing leaks, unclogging toilets and urinals, and maintaining fixtures
  • HVAC: monitoring systems to ensure occupant comfort
  • Carpentry & Repairs: minor carpentry, drywall repair, and painting
  • Exterior & Grounds: pest control and lawn care
  • Conduct regular facility inspections to identify maintenance needs and mitigate costly future repairs.
  • Respond promptly to emergency maintenance situations and perform necessary repairs.
  • Immediately report damage, vandalism, or theft of equipment.
  • Maintain accurate, complete, and compliant records in accordance with applicable laws, regulations, and district policies (e.g., permits, inspections).
    Work Order Management
  • Establish and maintain a work order system, ensuring all work orders are properly documented and approved prior to execution.
  • Review and evaluate work orders to determine required materials, equipment, and time.
  • Execute work orders with a high standard of quality, safety, and timeliness.
  • Track and maintain accurate records of labor time and project costs.
    Coordination & Collaboration
  • Communicate regularly with school staff and departments to coordinate maintenance requests and schedules.
  • Collaborate with contractors and vendors to ensure services are completed to district standards.
  • Monitor vendor work to ensure compliance with health, safety, and security requirements.
  • Identify maintenance needs beyond the scope of in-house work and recommend appropriate outside contractors, including scope and specifications.
  • Collaborate with designated landlord representatives to complete annual building inspection reports.
    Supervision & Support
  • Oversee custodial staff; if custodial services are contracted, collaborate with the vendor's assigned supervisor.
  • Assist staff when needed with moving, lifting, and assembling furniture, equipment, and materials.
  • Pick up and deliver supplies and materials between campuses and storage facilities as required.

    QUALIFICATIONS
  • High school diploma/GED required; Vocational/Technical school, college coursework, or Associate's degree preferred
  • License or certification in skilled area preferred.
  • Minimum 2 years experience in applicable area.
  • Experience providing maintenance services in a public school district or charter strongly preferred.
  • Experience working with a wide range of populations: personnel, students, parents, and other stakeholders.
    OTHER POSITION REQUIREMENTS
  • Ability to use hand and power tools (e.g., hammer, shovel, screwdriver, drills, power washers)
  • Ability to adjust the eye to bring an object into focus; judge distance (close and distant); reach with arms extended and use hands.
  • Requires physical exertion and handling of heavy objects or materials.
  • Ability to lift/carry/move/push/pull up to 50 pounds.
  • Must work indoors and outdoors year-round.
  • Must work in and around dust, fumes, and odors.
  • Ability and willingness to be on call and/or respond to calls 24/7. This includes being the first in line for all alarm calls.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks/priorities with frequent interruptions.
  • This position requires frequent standing, walking, sitting, bending, kneeling and/or the ability to be mobile.
  • This position may require prolonged or irregular hours.
  • Maintain emotional control under stress.
  • Ability to travel throughout the district and city as needed by means of personal/private or public transportation in compliance with the state's department of motor vehicle and/or public transportation laws.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English both written and oral forms with all levels of management, both internal and external to the district.
