Overview: The technician will assist with aspects of custodial, grounds, maintenance and event coverage at all College facilities and events. This position will consist of substitute custodial coverage necessary, event setups and coverage, grounds maintenance and minor repair and preventative maintenance on College facilities.This person will be required to work during delays and snow closure days that fall within scheduled workdays and may be on call during snow emergencies. Overtime and irregular work hours may be required on short notice, including evenings, weekends, special events, and call-ins, at the discretion of the appropriate supervisor.Work hours are determined by the College and are subject to change based on departmental and institutional needs. Academic year and summer schedules are established to support operational requirements. This position may provide campus-wide coverage, work in multiple buildings or locations, and occasionally require out-of-area travel. Qualifications:

EDUCATION

  • High School Diploma or GED or equivalent. Required

LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS

  • Valid and in State Valid Driver's License. Required

EXPERIENCE

  • Experience as a custodian. Preferred
  • Experience in general maintenance duties, such as electrical, carpentry, plumbing and HVAC. Preferred
  • Experience in general lawn and grounds duties. Preferred
  • Experience operating mechanical lifts. Preferred

ABILITIES AND SKILLS

  • Ability to read, write, and interpret instructions. Required
  • Ability to communicate both orally and in written form. Required
  • Possession of a valid driver's license. Required
  • Operate a plow truck. Preferred
  • Working knowledge of computer applications related to work order systems and Microsoft Office/Office 365 programs. Required
  • Must have training and/or certification in forklift operation or become trained/certified prior to performing forklift responsibilities. Required
  • Demonstrated sensitivity to diversity and multicultural issues. Required

 

Responsibilities:
  • Drive trucks, scissor lifts and forklifts.
  • Assist plumbers, carpenters, electricians, masons, and painters with general maintenance duties.
  • Assist with the installation and repair electrical lighting systems and fixtures.
  • Assist with the installation and repair of wood/metal framing, insulation, drywall, trim, acoustical ceilings, etc.
  • Patching, sanding, scraping, priming, and painting of surfaces.
  • Assist Horticulturists with various groundskeeping duties including but not limited to: cleaning of outdoor areas, mowing, weed control, mulching, snow removal.
  • Haul gravel, mulch, sand, top soil, equipment, supplies to and from various locations.
  • Move College offices and equipment.
  • Assist Custodians with various duties, including but not limited to: floor care, finish removal, refinishing, burnishing, mopping, scrubbing, carpet cleaning, vacuuming.
  • Dispose of trash and recycling.
  • Cleaning of surfaces, such as, walls, windows, ledges, desks, chairs, fountains, ashtrays, whiteboards, blackboards.
  • Dust various areas.
  • Maintain stairways and landings.
  • Clean restrooms and replenish supplies.
  • Provide proper disinfection of surfaces of surfaces as necessary.
  • Remove snow from walkways.
  • Replace light bulbs and clean lighting fixtures.
  • Set up areas for and function as an Attendant at special College events.

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assist with repairs to concrete work, walls, ceilings, floors, steps, walkways, and furnishings.
  • Perform other appropriate job-related duties as assigned by the Manager.
Physical Standards and Special Job Features: Lifting 65 lbs. maximum without assistance with frequent lifting and carrying of objects up to 50 lbs. Working off ladders, scaffolding, and aerial lifts at high elevations. Travel to main campus buildings when necessary. Exposed to dust and harsh chemicals in cleaning products.
