Job Description
The Facilities Services Technician I is responsible for performing essential custodial, housekeeping, and grounds keeping duties to ensure a clean and safe environment for City facilities. This role includes event set-ups, advanced floor care, light building maintenance, and related tasks. The technician will collaborate closely with the Facilities Manager and Director to maintain high standards of cleanliness and functionality throughout City facilities.
Job Functions

- Perform routine cleaning tasks, including sweeping, scrubbing, mopping, floor care (stripping, waxing), vacuuming, and shampooing of carpets.
- Maintain cleanliness of restrooms, replenish supplies, and follow sanitation standards as defined by City guidelines.
- Handle light building maintenance tasks, such as replacing light bulbs and air filters, moving furniture, assembling shelving, and conducting minor repairs.
- Monitor, report, and assist in the repair of facility issues and manage keyed security access.
- Oversee and coordinate with contracted extermination services as needed.
- Set up and break down furniture and equipment for events as requested.
- Ensure facilities are prepared for public and City events, meeting required setup standards and accommodating special requests.
- Participate in emergency duties as assigned, including working immediately before, during, or after emergency situations affecting public safety.
- Approach responsibilities with flexibility to handle special projects and after-hours requirements.
- Maintain an inventory of housekeeping and maintenance supplies, ensuring equipment is available and functional for routine and emergency tasks.
Must be able to provide services for the benefit of the public during emergency situations that threaten the safety of League City's citizens, and that, City employees must be able to work immediately before, during, or immediately after an emergency.
Qualifications
- Valid Texas State driver's license.
- High school diploma or GED equivalent.
- Minimum of one (1) year custodial or janitorial experience, preferably in a commercial setting.
- Must pass a Federal/National criminal background check and meet Criminal Justice Information Security (CJIS) standards for access to secure City facilities.
Supplemental Information
Knowledge of:
- Methods, materials, and equipment for janitorial and minor building maintenance.
- Safety procedures related to cleaning chemicals, hazardous materials, and general facility maintenance to ensure a safe working environment.
- Basic emergency response procedures, including fire safety, evacuation routes, and safe handling of equipment during emergencies.
Skill in:
- Using ladders safely and effectively.
- Building positive working relationships with colleagues, contractors, and the public.
- Managing time effectively to complete tasks within established deadlines.
- Applying practical problem-solving skills to address unexpected maintenance or custodial issues quickly and effectively.
- Operating a range of cleaning and maintenance tools and equipment, such as floor buffers, power washers, and hand tools, in a safe and efficient manner.
Ability to:
- Lift and move up to 50 pounds regularly and up to 100 pounds occasionally.
- Work with minimal supervision to meet deadlines.
- Follow oral and written instructions and communicate effectively.
- Work both independently and as part of a team, adapting to evolving schedules or last-minute changes, especially in response to unexpected facility needs or emergency situations.
- Ensure accuracy and quality in all cleaning and maintenance tasks through strong attention to detail.
Physical Requirements
This position demands significant physical exertion. The Facilities Services Technician I must be capable of occasionally lifting and moving objects weighing up to 100 pounds, frequently handling loads up to 50 pounds, and continuously managing items around 20 pounds. Physical stamina and strength are essential for tasks that require repetitive movements and sustained physical activity throughout the day.
