    Introduction

    The Maryland Historical Trust (MHT), an agency of the Maryland Department of Planning, is seeking to hire a full time Facilities Technician for Jefferson Patterson Park and Museum (JPPM). Located on 560 scenic acres along the Patuxent River in Calvert County, Maryland, JPPM is home to over 65 archaeological sites, more than 30 historic buildings and structures, and the Maryland Archaeological Conservation Laboratory. JPPM supports the preservation of Maryland''s cultural resources and connects people to the past through the preservation and interpretation of our onsite historical and archaeological resources. www.jefpat.org

    POSITION DUTIES

    Main Purpose of JobÂ

    The Facilities Technician provides facility and grounds maintenance and custodial services for Jefferson Patterson Park and Museum (JPPM). The position performs maintenance and repairs on buildings, grounds, tools, equipment, vehicles, and tractors. It also provides custodial services for office areas, public buildings, restrooms, and picnic areas and undertakes daily equipment readings and performs scheduled preventative maintenance. The Facilities Technician will provide set-up and support for public events, private rentals, and monitor facilities during daily operations, rentals, and events to ensure that JPPM policies are being followed as well as monitor facilities to ensure the safety and security of the site. This position provides facility-wide support in all areas mentioned above in order to allow the JPPM staff an adequate and safe working environment in which to meet the mission of MDP and JPPM. Work hours will include some evenings, weekends, and holidays.

    Position DutiesÂ

    Building MaintenanceÂ

    • Performs and supports routine building maintenance and repair, including electrical, mechanical, plumbing, minor structural, interior, and decorative work. Inspects buildings, identifies needs, and assists in updating maintenance plans.Â
    • Inspects safety equipment to ensure proper operation.Â

    Vehicle & Equipment MaintenanceÂ

    • Ensures all JPPM vehicles and equipmentâincluding portable units such as generatorsâare maintained according to schedule and that required paperwork is submitted to appropriate agencies. Inspects and performs preventative maintenance on vehicles and equipment and prepares them for seasonal changes.Â
    • Develops and updates maintenance schedules in consultation with the supervisor.Â

    Mechanical Systems Maintenance

    • Assists in coordinating maintenance for mechanical equipment across JPPM, including development and revision of equipment maintenance schedules.Â
    • Conducts inspections, preventative maintenance, and scheduled checks of all installed equipment. Performs daily condition checks, adjustments, and repairs. Determines frequency and replaces intake air filters as needed.Â
    • Manages temperature, humidity, and hot water settings using Building Automation Systems (BAS).Â

    Grounds MaintenanceÂ

    • Inspects grounds to ensure safety and security standards are met. Assists in developing and updating grounds maintenance schedules.Â
    • Maintains site appearance through mowing, trimming, clearing, and general grounds care. Ensures trails remain clear, safe, and accessible. Removes downed or hazardous limbs and trees to ensure visitor and staff safety.Â

    Event Monitoring & Facility SupportÂ

    • When scheduled, monitors events in the Patterson Center, Pavilion, MAC Meeting Room, and other venues during rentals. Performs related maintenance and custodial duties; ensures spaces are prepared, monitored, and secured.Â
    • Provides information and assistance to renters and ensures compliance with rental agreements, including event end times and required cleanup.Â
    • Represents JPPM to the public when supervisors are not on-site.Â

    Security, Safety & CommunicationÂ

    • Maintains clear communication with museum personnel and completes required logs, reports, and documentation.Â
    • Secures gates and buildings at the end of the day. Patrols the site, identifies unsafe or illegal activity, and addresses situations safely.Â
    • Monitors maintenance and security-related computer systems. Responds to alarms and takes appropriate action. Serves as first responder to building system alerts, security alarms, and fire alarms, assessing situations and notifying proper authorities.Â
    • Provides first aid and CPR when needed and contacts emergency personnel as appropriate. Interacts with law enforcement, DNR Police, firefighters, and rescue personnel.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

    Education: High School Diploma or GED

    Experience: Three years of experience in the building maintenance or building construction trades including two years of experience assigning, reviewing and approving the work of other building maintenance or building construction workers

    Notes: 1. Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operatorâs license valid in the State of Maryland.

    DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

    Preference will be given to applicants who possess the following preferred qualification(s). Include clear and specific information on your application regarding your qualifications.

    • One year of experience in customer service or retail.Â
    • One year of experience in supporting private or public event planning, management, or execution that includes customer or stakeholder engagement.
