This position will play a vital role in supporting the health and well-being of youth in a structured and nurturing environment. By providing safe, nutritious meals and stepping in to assist staff and youth as needed, you will help create a positive and supportive atmosphere aligned with our mission.

This position may require working rotating shifts and, as an essential employee, may require overtime and work during unscheduled hours.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education: Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate acceptable to the Maryland State Board of Education as described in the Maryland Correctional Training Commission regulation.
Experience: One (1) year of experience cooking, baking, or preparing large quantities of food in a restaurant, institutional, or military setting. Experience in a fast-food restaurant or as a short-order cook does not qualify. This experience must be clearly demonstrated on the completed application.

The above educational requirement is set by the Maryland Correctional Training Commission in accordance with Correctional Services Article, Section 8-209, Annotated Code of Maryland.
Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a non-commissioned officer in Food Services classifications or Food Services specialty codes in the Equipment, Facilities and Services field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.

Candidates appointed to positions in this classification must obtain certification by the Maryland Correctional Training Commission.
Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operatorâs license valid in the State of Maryland.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
U.S. Citizenship or Resident Alien status
A thorough background check, including fingerprinting and drug testing
An oral interview, and
Physical and psychological examinations.
Employees in this classification may be subject to call 24 hours a day and, therefore, may be required to provide the employing agency with a telephone number where the employee can be reached
Employees in this classification are subject to substance abuse testing in accordance with Code of Maryland Regulation 17.04.09 â Testing for Illegal Use of Drugs.
