JOB SUMMARY:     Responsible for coordinating the design, development, delivery, and evaluation of all clinical and non-clinical educational needs for employees and patients. Functions as a resource person for all staff and departments relating to mandatory in-services as well as continuing education programs.
 
Reports To:     Director of Quality/Risk/IFC
Classification: Exempt

 
QUALIFICATIONS:
  1. Associates degree in Nursing required, bachelor’s degree preferred.    
  2. Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of Louisiana or compact state required.
  3. Strong clinical background; critical care, ICU, ER or advanced training preferred.
  4. Minimum of five years of healthcare experience in Med/Surg or Operating Room setting preferred.  
  5. Excellent communication skills include presentation skills, and clear and concise verbal and written communication.  
  6. Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite.
 

OCCUPATIONAL EXPOSURE:

Category II, Moderate/Unplanned Exposure

 
RESPONSIBILITIES:
1.     Under the direction of facility Leadership assist in the design, development, delivery, and evaluation of all facility orientation and educational programs.  
2.     Supervises the educational and orientation activities of staff to achieve the maximum in patient safety, efficiency, and adherence to standards of care and regulatory requirements.
3.     Responsible for teaching courses and keeping content updated and current.
4.     Serve as an immediate informational educational resource for all staff.
5.     Serve as the facility liaison for all student clinical and educational programs including; nursing, surgical technicians, radiology technicians and other allied health programs.  
a.      Facilitate communication between the facility and educational institutions, coordinator student placements and schedules, ensure compliance with facility policies, and support a positive learning environment for all students and instructors.
6.     Coordinates the learning activities to achieve optimum educational opportunities and meet all regulatory requirements. 
a.      Implements employee education including new hire and annual regulatory requirements and Skills Fair via HealthStream or other means.
b.     Facilitates education based on identified quality, risk and safety needs and as needed or directed.
c.      Provides ACLS, BLS, PALS education and check-off of skills.
d.     Perform mock codes on nursing units.
e.      Provides nursing education for employee orientation.
f.      Works closely with unit managers for unit specific educational opportunities.
7.     Functions collaboratively with all departments and Unit Managers on educational assignments and in-services as well as to resolve concerns to ensure educational needs and competencies are met. 
8.     Provides information to facility administration to assist in the educational access and decision-making. 
9.     Coordinates the orientation of new staff members to  maximize educational opportunities within set timelines. 
10.  Communicates any observed areas of improvement requiring educational needs to Senior Leadership.
11.  Oversees the collection and analysis of educational information to assure accuracy.
12.  Responsible for coordination of student programs within the facility including orientation and health requirements.
13.  Works collaboratively with the Unit Managers to develop techniques for the staff to collect and communicate any data for process and quality improvement. 
14.  Seeks new learning experiences by accepting challenging opportunities and responsibilities.
15.  Assures adherence to Policies and Procedures as defined by  acceptable healthcare standards.  
16.  Acts as a role model for all staff for professional behavior and effective interpersonal communication techniques. 
17.  Assist QA/Risk Staff as needed in processing and reporting of exposure to bloodborne pathogens with HR dept for employee post exposure follow-up procedures.
18.  Performs all duties as assigned related to Infection Control & Quality/Risk.
19.  Successfully contributes to the quality improvement/risk/IC programs and processes as needed.
20.  Comply with facility Standards of Behavior and complete all required education assignments within the designated timeline.
