Role Overview
We are seeking an experienced  Facility Infrastructure Specialist to support the physical health and compliance of Infrastructure Distribution Facilities (IDFs) and Main Distribution Facilities (MDFs) across the Northwell Health enterprise.

This is a  100% hands-on, field-based infrastructure operations role . You will travel daily across multiple facilities (including Manhattan, Staten Island, Westchester, and Long Island) to maintain, inspect, and optimize telecommunications closets and data rooms. This role requires a "boots-on-the-ground " mentality and a proactive, "if you see something, say something " approach to infrastructure compliance.

Note: This is an Infrastructure Operations and Facilities maintenance role. It is strictly NOT a Network Engineering, Systems Engineering, or Project Management position.

Core Responsibilities

  • Perform daily physical inspections of IDF and MDF rooms across various hospital and enterprise facilities.
  • Verify and maintain structured cabling (LVC) and overall cable management.
  • Inspect UPS systems and verify electrical power availability.
  • Physically install, rack, and stack Cisco hardware (24-port/48-port switches, dual power supplies) and perform port scrubs.
  • Monitor environmental conditions within data rooms, including cooling and temperature metrics.
  • Identify infrastructure deficiencies and proactively coordinate remediation efforts or security improvements.
  • Document and maintain accurate rack elevations.
  • Remove obsolete hardware and maintain the general cleanliness and organization of telecom rooms.
  • Support day-2 operational activities alongside hospital staff following project deployments.

Required Skills & Qualifications

  • Location: Must currently reside within the NY Metropolitan area (No relocations or out-of-state candidates).
  • Travel: Must be willing and able to travel daily throughout the entire Northwell footprint (Manhattan, Staten Island, Westchester, Long Island, New Hyde Park, Melville, Peconic).
  • Experience: Proven hands-on experience maintaining Data Centers,
  • Telecommunications Closets, and IDF/MDF environments.
Hardware Knowledge: Strong physical familiarity with Cisco switches and UPS systems (networking configuration or CLI experience is not required).
  • Infrastructure Skills: Experience with structured cabling (LVC), rack management, and maintaining rack elevations.
  • Soft Skills: Excellent customer-facing communication skills with a positive, "sunny disposition. " Ability to interact professionally with nurses, department directors, facilities teams, and hospital staff.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Background in basic electrical concepts or facilities infrastructure.
Prior experience working within a Healthcare IT or Hospital Infrastructure environment.

Work Environment Details

  • Physical Demands: This is an active, field-based role that requires walking through hospitals, standing, inspecting closets, and physically racking equipment. It is not a desk job.
  • Patient Interaction: Zero patient interaction is required.
  • Clearances: Standard onboarding only; no specialized medical clearances required.

What This Role is NOT:

  • To ensure alignment with the manager's expectations, please note that this role does  not involve network configuration, architecture, or programming.
  • You will not be logging into network devices.
  • Minor exposure to project management is acceptable, but the core function of this role is strictly hands-on physical infrastructure maintenance and compliance.
