Facilities Maintenance Supervisor

Department: Facilities Management

Reports To: Director of Facilities

Classification: Full-Time, Non-Exempt

Location: Mississippi - Multiple Sites

 

Position Summary

The Facilities Maintenance Supervisor is a hands-on leadership role responsible for the day-to-day maintenance, repair, and upkeep of all NMPHC facilities. This position supervises facilities technicians while actively participating in skilled trade work including electrical, plumbing, HVAC, carpentry, and general maintenance. The ideal candidate leads by example, maintains high safety and quality standards, and ensures all facilities meet regulatory, clinical, and operational requirements consistent with FQHC guidelines.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Supervisory

  • Directly supervise facilities technicians, providing guidance, scheduling, and performance oversight.
  • Assign and prioritize work orders, preventive maintenance tasks, and special projects.
  • Train and mentor technicians on safe work practices, procedures, and quality standards.
  • Conduct performance evaluations and provide ongoing coaching and feedback.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for facilities staff in the absence of the Facilities Director.
  • Assist the Facilities Director with hiring, onboarding, and workforce planning.

 

Hands-On Maintenance & Repairs

  • Perform skilled maintenance and repair work in areas including electrical, plumbing, HVAC, carpentry, painting, and flooring.
  • Respond promptly to facility emergencies including after-hours situations as needed.
  • Conduct routine inspections of buildings, systems, and equipment to identify and address issues proactively.
  • Perform preventive maintenance on mechanical systems, medical equipment support systems, and facility infrastructure.
  • Coordinate and oversee outside contractors and vendors; verify quality of completed work.
  • Ensure all work performed by contractors meets FQHC standards and applicable codes - including use of certified electricians and licensed plumbers for applicable work.

 

Compliance & Safety

  • Ensure facilities comply with HRSA, OSHA, Joint Commission (if applicable), and other federal and state regulations.
  • Maintain and update the facility's Safety Management Plan and emergency preparedness procedures.
  • Conduct regular safety inspections and ensure corrective actions are completed in a timely manner.
  • Manage hazardous materials handling, storage, and disposal in accordance with applicable regulations.
  • Ensure proper documentation of all maintenance activities, inspections, and regulatory compliance records.
  • Support infection control efforts by maintaining clean, safe, and properly functioning facilities.

 

Administrative

  • Maintain accurate work order records, maintenance logs, and inventory of parts and supplies.
  • Assist in developing and managing the facilities maintenance budget.
  • Obtain cost estimates and competitive bids for repairs, projects, and equipment purchases.
  • Communicate effectively with clinical and administrative staff regarding facility needs and project timelines.
  • Participate in facilities planning meetings and contribute to long-range maintenance planning.

 

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required; associate degree or vocational/trade certification preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in building maintenance, facilities management, or a related skilled trade.
  • Minimum of 2 years of supervisory or lead experience in a facilities or construction environment.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in at least two skilled trades (e.g., electrical, plumbing, HVAC, carpentry).
  • Working knowledge of OSHA regulations and general safety practices.
  • Valid Mississippi driver's license with acceptable driving record.
  • Ability to pass a background check and drug screening as required by FQHC policy.

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working in a healthcare or FQHC environment.
  • Experience managing contractor relationships and vendor agreements.
  • Knowledge of computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS) or work order software.
  • Trade certifications or licenses in electrical, HVAC, or plumbing.

 

Physical Requirements

This is a working supervisor role with significant physical demands. Candidates must be able to perform the following with or without reasonable accommodation:

  • Regularly lift, carry, push, or pull objects weighing up to 50 lbs; occasionally up to 75 lbs with assistance.
  • Climb ladders and work at heights; work in confined spaces, crawl spaces, and mechanical rooms.
  • Stand, walk, bend, kneel, and crouch for extended periods throughout the workday.
  • Work in varying environmental conditions including heat, cold, dust, and noise.
  • Use hand and power tools safely and effectively.
  • Drive between multiple facility sites as required.

 

Work Environment

Work is performed both indoors and outdoors across multiple FQHC sites. The position requires flexibility in scheduling, including occasional evenings, weekends, or on-call response for facility emergencies. Travel between sites is required and a company vehicle or mileage reimbursement will be provided per organizational policy.
