Primary Purpose of the Organizational Unit

Facilities Operations has the responsibility of providing a wide range of services to the entire UNCG campus. Services include all aspects of corrective and preventive maintenance, operations, grounds maintenance, housekeeping, utility infrastructure maintenance and operations, business operations, safety, regulatory compliance, project management, and renovations. These duties are conducted for a campus consisting of over 100 buildings totaling 6 million gross square feet on over 275 acres.

Position Summary

Under general supervision, perform skilled "journey-level" work in all assigned responsibilities related to the construction, renovation, maintenance, and repair of Housing and Residence Life facilities, Academic Buildings, and Administrative Buildings. Duties may include the upkeep, renovation, and general maintenance of plumbing, heating, air-conditioning, electrical, and other systems; carpentry work, including building walls, hanging doors, and trim work; installation and repair of flooring, acoustical ceiling grids, cabinetry, and drywall; painting; and light furniture repairs.

Must read and understand floor plans and construction documents necessary to construct or erect small- to moderately complex projects with minimal assistance from project managers or supervisors.

This position is a mandatory position as defined in the Adverse Weather and Emergency Event Policy and may be required to participate in an on-call rotation.

Minimum Qualifications

HIGH SCHOOL DIPLOMA OR EQUIVALENCY; OR DEMONSTRATED POSSESSION OF THE COMPETENCIES NECESSARY TO PERFORM THE WORK. OPTIONAL GUIDELINES: EXPERIENCE IN THE TRADE AREAS RELATED TO THE AREA OF ASSIGNMENT MAY BE SUBSTITUTED ON A YEAR-FOR-YEAR BASIS.

Additional Required Certifications, Licensures, and Certificates

Must have a valid NC Driver's License.

Preferred Qualifications

Five years of experience in one or more of the building trades or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
