    Job Description

    ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES

    • Responsible for performing routine and specialized maintenance, repair, and cleanliness tasks for the WARC facilities.

    • Supports the operation of building mechanical, plumbing, electrical, and custodial systems by completing assigned work tasks safely and efficiently.

    • Assists with daily facility operations including preventative maintenance, safety checks, and general repair work.

    • Must be willing to work non-standard hours, including weekends and evenings.

    • Works cooperatively with recreation, fitness, and facility departments to support facility needs, programs, and events.

    • Responsible for being a self-starter and completing assigned tasks with minimal supervision.

    JOBDUTIES/TASKS

    • Perform routine maintenance tasks to ensure the building is operational, safe, and secure at all times.
    • Conduct regular walk-throughs of the WARC to identify needed repairs, safety concerns, and maintenance tasks.
    • Assist in repairs and minor maintenance of building systems including plumbing, irrigation, electrical fixtures (non-licensed tasks), HVAC filter changes, lighting, and mechanical equipment.
    • Complete custodial tasks including sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, trash removal, restroom cleaning, and floor care using buffers, scrubbers, extractors, and pressure washers.
    • Maintain facility equipment by performing basic repairs, cleaning, lubrication, and preventative maintenance.
    • Operate assigned vehicles, machinery, and tools, including skid steers, mowers, snowblowers, utility vehicles, and hand/power tools.
    • Assist with snow removal, mowing, weed eating, spraying, and other grounds-related maintenance tasks.
    • Assist with event setup and tear-down including moving tables, chairs, staging, athletic equipment, and supplies.
    • Follow all instructions regarding the safe use, mixing, and storage of chemicals and supplies in accordance with OSHA and district safety standards.
    • Respond to building alarms, spills, and maintenance-related emergencies during scheduled hours.
    • Report all safety hazards, repair needs, and equipment malfunctions to the Facilities Operations Manager.
    • Maintain accurate knowledge of building practices, safety procedures, equipment operation, and maintenance methods.
    • Assist in basic inventory tasks and proper storage and organization of supplies and equipment.
    • Attend required staff meetings, safety meetings, and interdepartmental meetings to ensure communication and coordination between departments.
    • Assist in the instruction of community service workers when assigned.
    • Support and enforce all Park District policies, safety regulations, and guidelines.
    • Perform related duties as required.

    KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED BY THE POSITION

    • Knowledge of facility maintenance methods, processes, and standards.

    • Knowledge of equipment operation, repair procedures, and preventive maintenance.

    • Skill in operating tools, vehicles, and equipment associated with facility and grounds maintenance.

    • General knowledge of standard building practices, safety precautions, and hazard recognition.

    SUPERVISORY Responsibilities

    • This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

    • May assist by giving basic task instructions to community service workers when assigned, but does not hire, schedule, supervise, or evaluate employees.

    GUIDELINES

    • Work is performed in accordance with Park District Policies and Procedures, safety rules, equipment manuals, and standard building maintenance practices. These guidelines are generally clear and specific but may require some interpretation depending on facility conditions.

    WORKING CONDITIONS

    • Work is performed primarily indoors with regular outdoor tasks related to grounds maintenance, snow removal, and seasonal upkeep.

    • Potential exposure to noise, dirt, dust, grease, chemicals, bodily fluids, and machinery with moving parts.

    • Work requires standing, bending, lifting, climbing ladders, kneeling, and carrying heavy objects.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

    • Experience in facility, building, industrial, or commercial maintenance preferred.

    • Good troubleshooting and problem-solving ability.

    • Ability to operate basic tools, equipment, and machinery; willingness to learn specialized building systems.

    • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple tasks.

    • Computer literacy sufficient for email, basic work order systems, and documentation.

    • Must be 18 years old.

    • Valid driver’s license required (or ability to obtain within 30 days).

    • Current CPR Certification or ability to obtain within 6 months.

    • Ability to work evenings, weekends, and non-standard hours as required.

    • Ability to work with limited supervision.

    • Ability to lift a minimum of 30 pounds and perform heavier lifting with assistance.

    • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.

    • Ability to follow directions, maintain attention to detail, and apply safe work practices.

    • Essential physical and mental capabilities including: memory, organization, comprehension, reading, writing, calculating, problem-solving, and interpersonal skills.
