Facility Process Chemical/Mechanical Engineer

About the Opportunity

Our client is seeking an Intermediate/Associate Process Chemical/Mechanical Engineer to join their team in Essex Junction, Vermont. This is an exciting opportunity to work on projects that support cutting-edge manufacturing and industrial facilities. The successful candidate will play a key role in designing and implementing facility infrastructure upgrades, tenant improvements, and complex manufacturing tool installations within highly technical environments.

This position offers the opportunity to collaborate with multidisciplinary engineering teams, client stakeholders, equipment manufacturers, and construction professionals to deliver innovative solutions for some of the most advanced industrial facilities in operation today.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support facility engineering projects involving complex manufacturing environments.
  • Collaborate with client stakeholders to establish design requirements and develop construction documentation.
  • Design and develop layouts for:
    • Wet and dry process piping systems
    • Process chemical distribution systems
    • Specialty gas systems
    • HVAC systems
    • Exhaust systems
    • Plumbing systems
    • Fire protection and suppression systems
    • Equipment and utility infrastructure
  • Prepare engineering calculations, equipment sizing, component selection, and technical specifications.
  • Develop utility requirement documents for manufacturing tool installations.
  • Evaluate and retrofit existing building systems to support new equipment installations.
  • Coordinate with multi-disciplinary engineering teams throughout project development.
  • Interface directly with equipment owners, facility personnel, contractors, and vendors.
  • Support construction activities through RFI responses, submittal reviews, field walks, and installation verification.
  • Participate in engineering design reviews and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Assist in integrating facility systems into active manufacturing environments.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a closely related discipline.
  • Ability to work onsite in Essex Junction, VT Monday through Friday during normal business hours.
  • Local candidates preferred; relocation assistance may be available for qualified candidates.
  • Ability to work in active construction and manufacturing environments.
  • Must be able to:
    • Walk long distances
    • Sit and stand for extended periods
    • Bend, stoop, twist, and crawl
    • Climb ladders and work on catwalks
    • Work in confined spaces
    • Lift and carry up to 25 pounds
  • Ability to successfully complete a background check and drug screening.
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States without current or future sponsorship requirements.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of AutoCAD and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering and construction drawings.
  • Experience supporting semiconductor manufacturing facilities or manufacturing tool installation projects.
  • Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification or ability to obtain.
  • Previous facilities engineering experience.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Demonstrated ability to learn quickly and adapt in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong organizational and project coordination skills.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively within multidisciplinary teams.
  • Passion for industrial facilities, manufacturing operations, and building systems engineering.
