The Opportunity
The Facility Security Manager (FSM) is responsible for leading the daily security operations, programs, and personnel assigned to a facility, project site, or corporate location. This role provides direct oversight of physical security, access control, investigations, emergency response support, contractor and visitor security, and security performance management.
The FSM serves as the primary site security leader and is accountable for ensuring the protection of employees, visitors, contractors, company assets, intellectual property, and business operations. The FSM ensures compliance with company security standards, client requirements, applicable regulations, and site-specific procedures while driving a proactive security culture focused on prevention, accountability, and operational readiness.
The FSM works closely with Operations, HSE, Human Resources, Information Technology, Facilities, project leadership, contract security providers, and law enforcement agencies to maintain a safe, secure, and resilient operating environment.
What you will do?
Security Program Leadership
- Lead implementation of site security policies, procedures, standards, and post orders.
- Maintain and improve the facility security plan and site-specific security procedures.
- Ensure compliance with corporate security requirements, client expectations, and contractual obligations.
- Conduct security risk assessments, vulnerability reviews, and site security inspections.
- Identify physical security gaps and develop corrective action plans.
- Support enterprise security initiatives and continuous improvement efforts.
- Serve as the site point of contact for security audits, assessments, and client security reviews.
Access Control & Physical Security
- Manage facility access control systems, visitor management systems, and badging programs.
- Oversee issuance, tracking, auditing, suspension, and deactivation of badges and credentials.
- Ensure proper control of keys, locks, restricted areas, gates, turnstiles, and controlled access points.
- Monitor and maintain security technology systems, including:
- CCTV
- Intrusion detection systems
- Access control systems
- Visitor management systems
Incident Management & Investigations
- Lead security response to incidents, threats, suspicious activity, and emergencies.
- Conduct or support investigations involving:
- Theft
- Property damage
- Workplace violence
- Security violations
- Unauthorized access
- Insider threat concerns
- Suspicious activity
- Loss or damage of company property
- Collect, document, and preserve evidence when required.
- Prepare investigation reports, incident summaries, and corrective action recommendations.
- Coordinate with Human Resources, Legal, HSE, Operations, and law enforcement as needed.
- Track corrective actions through closure and verify effectiveness.
Emergency Preparedness & Response
- Support site emergency management, crisis response, and business continuity programs.
- Participate in emergency response planning, drills, tabletop exercises, and after-action reviews.
- Serve as a member of the site emergency response or crisis management team.
- Coordinate security response during:
- Fire events
- Severe weather
- Medical emergencies
- Active threat situations
- Facility evacuations
- Civil disturbance
- Utility disruptions
- Natural disasters
- Support accountability, access control, site lockdown, evacuation, and re-entry procedures.
- Assist with crisis communications and emergency notifications as assigned.
Contractor & Visitor Security Management
- Verify and enforce security requirements for contractors, vendors, visitors, and delivery personnel.
- Ensure visitor access, escort, and badging procedures are followed.
- Support contractor onboarding and site security briefings.
- Monitor contractor compliance with site security rules.
- Support project mobilization, demobilization, and temporary security planning.
- Coordinate with project leadership to ensure security controls are in place during high-risk work, off-hours work, and major site activities.
Security Operations Management
- Manage daily security operations and contract security personnel.
- Develop and maintain security staffing plans, post assignments, and coverage schedules.
- Conduct post inspections, officer audits, and security performance reviews.
- Review security officer reports, logs, patrol records, and incident documentation.
- Verify security personnel maintain professional appearance, conduct, and customer service expectations.
- Provide direction, coaching, and escalation support to security officers.
- Coordinate with contract security providers regarding staffing, performance, training, and corrective actions.
Security Awareness & Training
- Deliver or coordinate security awareness training for employees, contractors, and visitors.
- Support site orientation and onboarding programs.
- Promote threat awareness, suspicious activity reporting, workplace violence prevention, and access control compliance.
- Conduct security drills and exercises as required.
- Maintain security training records and participation documentation.
- Reinforce security expectations through field engagement, briefings, and leadership communication.
Reporting & Performance Metrics
- Maintain accurate security records, reports, logs, and documentation.
- Develop and submit security performance metrics to the Sr. Security Manager.
- Track and trend:
- Security incidents
- Access violations
- Badge audit results
- Theft and loss events
- Visitor activity
- Alarm activations
- Patrol compliance
- Investigation outcomes
- Corrective action closure
- Contractor security compliance
- Prepare monthly security performance reports and identify trends requiring leadership attention.
Leadership Expectations
The Facility Security Manager shall:

- Support enterprise security goals, strategic initiatives, and continuous improvement efforts.
Required Qualifications
- Associate’s Degree in Criminal Justice, Security Management, Emergency Management, Business Administration, or related field preferred.
- Equivalent military, law enforcement, emergency management, or corporate security experience may be substituted.
Experience
- Minimum 7 years of security, law enforcement, military, emergency management, or corporate security experience.
- Minimum 3 years of experience managing facility, project site, or industrial security operations.
- Experience supervising contract security personnel or security teams.
- Experience with access control, CCTV, investigations, emergency response, and physical security programs.
- Experience in manufacturing, construction, critical infrastructure, data centers, or industrial environments preferred.
