POSITION SUMMARY:

The Facility Technician is responsible for helping maintain the safety, appearance, functionality, and overall condition of the YMCA facility and grounds. This position performs preventative maintenance, repairs, inspections, and operational support to ensure a safe, welcoming, and professional environment for members, staff, and guests.

The ideal candidate is a self-starter who takes pride in their workmanship, demonstrates strong attention to detail, and can work independently while maintaining excellent communication with staff, members, vendors, and contractors. Because the YMCA of Greenwich operates a historic facility, strong painting, patching, drywall repair, and finishing skills are essential for success in this role. The successful candidate will have the ability to perform clean, detailed, professional-quality painting work and maintain the appearance and integrity of the facility to the highest standards.

Facility Director

PAY RANGE:

$21/hour – $24/hour (based on experience)

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Communicate clearly and effectively with the Director of Facilities regarding facility conditions, repairs, and ongoing projects.
  • Conduct and document daily facility inspections and maintain accurate maintenance and work order records.
  • Perform preventative maintenance and general repairs throughout the facility.
  • Perform and interior and exterior painting projects, including surface preparation, patching, drywall repair, priming, painting, staining, and finishing work. While maintaining high-quality workmanship standards.
  • Repair walls, ceilings, doors, trim, and other building finishes to maintain a professional appearance throughout the facility.
  • Assist with plumbing, electrical, HVAC, carpentry, and other building maintenance tasks.
  • Ensure the facility remains in compliance with health, safety, environmental, and building code requirements.
  • Support YMCA programs, events, and special activities through facility setup, breakdown, and operational support.
  • Respond promptly to maintenance requests from staff, members, and guests.
  • Monitor facility systems and respond to alarms, equipment failures, and emergency situations.
  • Assist in maintaining the security of the building, grounds, and parking areas.
  • Coordinate and maintain positive working relationships with contractors, vendors, and service providers.
  • Ensure deliveries, contracted services, and projects meet quality and scheduling expectations.
  • Assist in maintaining inventory of maintenance supplies, tools, and equipment.
  • Support pool operations and water quality management (CPO Certification preferred).
  • Participate in emergency response procedures and after-hours call coverage as needed.
  • Be available to respond to after-hours, weekend, and emergency facility issues.
  • Perform additional duties and projects as assigned by the Director of Facilities.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Minimum of two (2) years of facilities maintenance, building operations, construction, or related experience.
  • Working knowledge of drywall, painting, plumbing, electrical, HVAC, carpentry, and general building maintenance.
  • Demonstrated experience performing professional-quality painting, wall repairs, patching, surface preparation, and finishing work.
  • Ability to produce clean, detailed, and aesthetically pleasing results in a highly visible member-focused environment.
  • Knowledge of proper tool usage, maintenance procedures, and workplace safety practices.
  • Ability to safely operate hand tools, power tools, ladders, and maintenance equipment.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong communication and customer service skills.
  • Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and solve problems effectively.
  • Basic computer proficiency including Microsoft Office applications.

  • Experience working in a recreational, educational, hospitality, healthcare, or commercial facility environment (preffered).
  • Experience using computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS) (preffered).
  • High School Diploma or GED (preffered).

WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull up to 50 pounds; bend, kneel, crouch, reach, and work in confined spaces.
  • Ability to climb ladders and work from elevated surfaces safely; stand and walk for extended periods throughout the workday.
  • Ability to work indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions.
