    Summary

    This is an exciting time to work for Amarillo College! We are seeking our next Faculty - Economics who will be all-in on our mission and who provides high-quality, learner-centered instruction in Economics and related Business courses. Instruction may occur in classroom, technology-supported, hybrid, dual credit, or online environments and emphasizes critical thinking, economic analysis, and real-world application of economic principles. Teaching responsibilities may include courses such as ECON 2301 - Principles of Macroeconomics, ECON 2302 - Principles of Microeconomics, and other Business Administration courses as assigned. In addition to teaching, faculty are responsible for curriculum development, student advising, assessment of student learning outcomes, maintaining instructional excellence, participating in professional development, and supporting departmental and College initiatives that advance the mission and strategic goals of Amarillo College.

    Qualifications

    EDUCATION:

    Required: Masters Degree in Economics or a Masters Degree with a minimum of eighteen (18) graduate semester hours in Economics from an accredited institution.

    EXPERIENCE:

    Preferred: Previous teaching experience at the post-secondary level.

    Job Duties & Responsibilities

    • Teach assigned Economics and Business courses using effective instructional methods that promote student learning and success.
    • Prepare and deliver organized, engaging, and relevant instructional materials aligned with approved course outcomes and College standards.
    • Develop and maintain course syllabi, lesson plans, assignments, assessments, and instructional resources.
    • Evaluate student learning through appropriate assessments and provide timely, constructive feedback.
    • Maintain accurate records of attendance, grades, and other required student documentation.
    • Utilize instructional technologies and the Colleges learning management system to enhance student learning.
    • Teach day, evening, weekend, online, hybrid, dual credit, and/or satellite campus courses as assigned.
    • Foster a positive, inclusive, and engaging learning environment that promotes student achievement and retention.
    • Maintain scheduled office hours to advise, mentor, tutor, and support students.
    • Assist students in identifying academic resources and support services.
    • Encourage critical thinking, ethical behavior, and lifelong learning.
    • Participate in curriculum development, course revisions, program review, and student learning outcomes assessment.
    • Evaluate instructional effectiveness and implement continuous improvement strategies.
    • Remain current in the discipline through scholarly activities, professional development, and industry engagement.
    • Participate in department, division, and College meetings.
    • Serve on College committees and participate in institutional initiatives as assigned.
    • Participate in faculty development opportunities, General Assembly, Center for Teaching and Learning workshops, and other required training.
    • Assist with advising, registration, recruiting, outreach activities, student organizations, competitions, and community engagement events supporting the Business Administration Department.
    • Support accreditation, assessment, and strategic planning initiatives.
    • Demonstrate professionalism, integrity, and ethical conduct in all interactions with students, faculty, staff, and the community.
    • Maintain compliance with College policies, procedures, and accreditation standards.
    • Complete required administrative responsibilities, including attendance reporting, grading, assessment reporting, and other institutional documentation in a timely manner.
    • Perform other work-related duties as required.

    • Strong instructional, organizational, and classroom management skills.
    • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
    • Ability to utilize instructional technologies, learning management systems, and Microsoft Office applications.
    • Ability to work collaboratively with faculty, staff, administrators, and community partners.
    • Ability to analyze data, solve problems, and exercise sound judgment.
    • Commitment to student success, continuous improvement, and lifelong learning.
    • Willingness to teach at multiple College locations and through various instructional delivery methods, including online instruction.
    • Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise professionalism in all aspects of the position.

    Salary: Faculty Pay Information, please review the AC AY24 Faculty Salary Placement. (Salary is determined by Human Resources based on education, work experience and internal comparisons).

    Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, sit, communicate effectively, and operate standard office and classroom equipment. The employee may occasionally lift and move instructional materials or equipment weighing up to twenty-five (25) pounds.

    Working Conditions: This position may require a flexible work schedule, including day, evening, weekend, online, dual credit, and satellite campus assignments based on departmental needs.

    Work Environment: Work is performed in classroom, laboratory, online, and professional office environments. The position requires the use of computers, audiovisual equipment, learning management systems, Microsoft Office applications, Colleague, and other instructional technologies.
