The Associate Director is responsible to the Program Director of
Family Medicine Residency and through him/her to the Director of Medical Education (DME). The basic responsibilities outlined in this document may be supplemented with a statement of goals and objectives to be developed annually by the Residency Director and the Associate Director.
Responsibilities:Educational Responsibilities
The primary duty of the Associate Director is as a faculty member of the Family Medicine Residency actively participating in the education and training of residents and medical students in the specialty of Family Medicine.
Qualifications:
Graduate Medical Education
The Associate Director will:
Serve as the Family Medicine faculty attending in the Family Medicine Center as assigned by the Program Director.
Undergraduate Medical Education
Participate in assigned activities with students from affiliated medical schools (seminars, patient care supervision, and other activities as deemed necessary).
Continuing Medical Education
1. Prepare and present Family Medicine Grand Rounds topics to the faculty and residents.
2. Personal Professional Development
a. Participate in at least one continuing education seminar annually, as approved by the Program Director, to maintain and upgrade clinical/teaching skills.
b. Attend as many of the Grand Rounds educational series offered at The Medical Center as feasible
Clinical Responsibilities
Research Responsibilities
A. Personal
1. The Associate Director is encouraged to be involved in research or clinical investigation in areas of his/her special interest.
B. Institutional
1. The Associate Director will participate in faculty development as developed for the department.
2. Encouraged to serve as co-investigator and/or advisor for residents on research and/or clinical investigation projects of relevance to Family Medicine.
Public Service Responsibilities
These activities will be coordinated between the Associate Director and the Program Director. These activities may include:
A. Participate in the various educational programs at Midtown Medical Center.
B. Development and participation in programs of patient education.
C. Participate in community organizations having the mission of improving the health status of the citizens of Columbus and surrounding areas.
D. Participation in local, state, and national organizations relative to the specialty of Family Medicine and resident education to include but not limited to the American Academy of Family Physicians, Society of Teachers of Family Medicine, and the Georgia Academy of Family Physicians
