Job Description Summary
The instructor is responsible for the coordination, planning, preparation, presentation, and evaluation of classroom instruction and related activities during the day, evening, or weekend via instructional delivery formats to include face-to-face, hybrid, online, and remote. Face-to-face and hybrid classes may be offered on any Prince Georges Community College campus or at off-campus locations. The instructor must remain current in the discipline area and continually explore teaching methods and strategies to engage learners, organize and plan instructional content that accommodates diverse learning styles, and devise appropriate assessment tools that monitor student learning outcomes. The instructor is also responsible for participating in related activities to include professional development, academic advising, and curriculum design. The instructor performs all other duties as directed by the Department Chair, Dean of Instruction, or the President or designee.
Minimum Qualifications
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- Required: Masters degree in Quantum Information Science (QIS), Quantum Engineering, Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Robotics, Physics with a quantum specialization, Computer Engineering, Computer Science with an AI or QIS emphasis, or closely related discipline.
- A minimum of 1 year of full-time higher education teaching experience in areas such as data science, cloud computing, software development, cybersecurity, information systems, or related technologies.
- OR: A minimum of one semester of higher education teaching experience in areas such as data science, cloud computing, software development, cybersecurity, information systems, or related technologies combined with at least three years of industry experience in data science, cloud computing, or other related computing fields.
Preferred Qualifications
- Industry experience in one or more of the following: data science, cloud computing, software development, Quantum technologies in academic, cybersecurity, information security, information technology, computer programming, database systems, systems analysis, AIML, or web technologies.
- Demonstrated experience with high-impact teaching practices that enhance student engagement and learning outcomes, such as project-based learning, real-world simulations, or the integration of emerging technologies in the classroom.
- Doctorate in Quantum Information Science, Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, or a related emerging-technology field.
- Demonstrated experience applying AI or quantum technologies in academic research or industry settings.
Other Requirements
- Evidence of curriculum development or applied research in AI, machine learning, quantum computing, or other emerging technologies.
- Experience working with grant-funded initiatives or workforce programs in AI or quantum technologies.
- Extent and relevance of educational preparation to anticipated teaching assignments.
- Relevance of teaching experience to anticipated teaching assignments in a variety of information technology areas.
- Relevance of non-teaching professional experience to anticipated teaching assignments.
Examples of Qualifications
- Curriculum development, interdisciplinary engagement, work with grant-funded programs, industry certification.
- Evidence of quality teaching, including faculty evaluation scores and ratings, teaching awards earned, face-to-face and online courses designed, developed, and/or revised.

Criteria for Selection
The following criteria, which are not the sole criteria used in the final hiring decision, will be used to review the applications of those persons who meet the stated minimum qualifications and to select those qualified applicants who will be interviewed. Other information and observations made during the interview process may be considered in the selection process.
Essential Duties
- Plan, organize, and teach curriculum content in conjunction with course outcomes.
- Using applicable technology and andragogical principles, teach course content via an appropriate delivery format, which may include face-to-face, hybrid, online, and remote instruction.
- Complete mandated institutional trainings and professional development as required.
- Follow department and division requirements for preparing a course syllabus.
- Facilitate appropriate instructional activities that promote student engagement and learning.
- Evaluate student performance using assessment tools as directed by the department, inform students in a timely manner of their progress.
- Create and administer assessments that monitor student progress, provide timely student feedback.
- Provide an orientation at the first-class meeting to include, as applicable, an overview of the course syllabus, an outline of course objectives, course requirements, attendance policy, grading system, textbooks, and supplemental materials.
- Notify students of key dates and course adjustments.
- Comply with attendance and grading requirements as established for the course, which may include maintaining an up-to-date electronic grade book and entering final grades by the established due date.
- Maintain accurate class records, submit required class records by the established due date.
- Participate in departmental evaluation and course assessment processes as directed.
- Follow department and division requirements for maintaining office hours, advising students, and referring students to appropriate resources.
- Respond to student emails and phone calls within 48 hours, with the exception of weekends and holidays.
- Maintain regular communication with students.
- Use the assigned PGCC email for communication with the department and with students.
- Submit annual program budgets to and work closely with the appropriate Department Chair, Program Coordinator, Director, or Program Director on the development of annual division budgets for approval by the Dean, if applicable.
- Attend all required meetings.
- Engage in appropriate and relevant service to the college and to the department, such as search committees, faculty committees, etc.
- Maintain the currency and relevance of all learning resources for the courses, especially but not limited to OERs.
- Serve as a Campus Security Authority (CSA) by complying with the Clery Act and reporting crime-related information.
- Perform all other job-related duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Knowledge of quantum computing fundamentals, including qubits, quantum circuits, and basic quantum algorithms.
- Ability to use quantum development platforms, such as Qiskit, Cirq, or AWS Braket.
- Applied AI development skills, including machine learning, deep learning, LLMs, and agentic AI systems.
- Proficiency with Python for AI and quantum development.
- Ability to integrate AI and QIS concepts into engineering, computing, or cybersecurity instruction.
- Mastery of course content.
- Ability to provide service to diverse populations using a student-centered approach.
- Ability to communicate effectively with students, faculty, and staff.
- Ability to plan, deliver, and assess effective instruction.

Physical Requirements
- Must have the use of sensory skills in order to effectively communicate and interact with other employees and the public through the use of the telephone and personal contact, as normally defined by the ability to see, read, talk, hear, handle, or feel objects and controls.
- Physical capability to effectively use and operate various items of office-related equipment, such as but not limited to a personal computer, calculator, copier, and fax machine.
- Some climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, and repetitive motions may be required.
