Responsibilities include coaching and directing students in mariachi and directing the TAMIU Mariachi Internacional ensemble. The Mariachi Director will be expected to lead rehearsals, schedule additional rehearsals as needed, and provide coaching, mentoring, and individual or small-group instruction to support student development and ensemble performance. Successful applicants may also teach up to nine (9) semester credit hours in Music at on-campus or online locations as dictated by student demand, hold office hours, and provide academic support to students as needed. This position requires face-to-face interaction through a regular schedule of attendance on campus.
Education and Experience:
• Master's degree in Music preferred. Candidates holding a Bachelor's degree in Music and possessing significant professional experience or qualifications equivalent to master's-level preparation will also be considered.
• Previous coaching of mariachi groups at regional/competitive level.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Prior performance or active experience as a professional mariachi musician.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
• Ability to coach and mentor undergraduate college music students in the mariachi ensemble(s).
• Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing.
• Ability to collaborate with colleagues in the Department of Fine and Performing Arts, as well as the general public.
• Ability to interact effectively and professionally with the general public.
• Ability to plan, organize, and prioritize tasks.
• Ability to work under stress and with pressing timelines.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality.
Other information:
• The above job duties may not be performed in every Adjunct Faculty position and might not include all related duties that may be performed.
• Additional courses may be assigned according to the individual's expertise and departmental needs.
• Adjunct Faculty positions are temporary appointments, assigned per semester and on an as-needed basis.
• These temporary appointments are for the applicable Fall semester and/or any applicable Fall sub-terms.
