JOB TITLE: Family and Community Engagement Coordinator

REPORTS TO: Building Principal (day-to-day supervision); Director of Student Services (corporation-level coordination)

DEPARTMENT: Student Services

COLLABORATIVE PARTNER: Communities In Schools (CIS)

JOB SUMMARY

The Family and Community Engagement Coordinator is an employee of the Monroe County Community School Corporation (MCCSC) assigned to a designated school building under the day-to-day direction and supervision of the building principal. At the corporation level, this position receives coordination and support through the Department of Student Services and the Director of Student Services.

Communities In Schools (CIS) serves as a collaborative partner in this role, providing programmatic support, model implementation guidance, professional development, and community resource coordination consistent with the CIS model of Integrated Student Supports. CIS functions as a valued community partner that helps equip and support the coordinator's work within MCCSC schools.

In this role, the Family and Community Engagement Coordinator supports the principal in planning, implementing, and managing a comprehensive system of integrated student supports at the school level. This includes leading school-wide and individualized support efforts, building meaningful partnerships with families and community organizations, and coordinating resources that help students overcome barriers to learning and remain engaged in school.

REPORTING STRUCTURE

Building Level:

The coordinator reports directly to and is supervised by the building principal. Daily operations, school-based priorities, and site-level decisions are directed by the principal in alignment with the school improvement plan.

Corporation Level:

The Director of Student Services provides corporation-level coordination, program alignment, and professional oversight. This ensures consistency of practice across buildings and alignment with MCCSC's strategic priorities for student well-being.

Collaborative Partner:

Communities In Schools supports the coordinator's work through the CIS model of Integrated Student Supports, offering training, data tools, community partnerships, and program consultation. CIS does not hold supervisory authority over this MCCSC position.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

The Family and Community Engagement Coordinator is responsible for the following, in partnership with the school's leadership team and in coordination with CIS:

Integrated Student Supports - Model Implementation

  • Engage and lead a school support team that works closely with administrators, teachers, and staff in implementing a tiered model of integrated student supports; team may include volunteers, school staff, and community partners.
  • Lead the annual needs assessment process using data from school improvement plans, surveys, and discussions with staff, parents, and students to identify school-wide and individual student needs.
  • Develop and implement a comprehensive school support plan with measurable objectives that includes Tier I (school-wide), Tier II (targeted), and Tier III (intensive, individualized) service delivery strategies.
  • Coordinate and deliver evidence-based services aligned with best practice and risk factor research; ensure that students with the greatest risk of disengagement receive prioritized, individualized attention.
  • Regularly monitor and adjust services in collaboration with the school support team to maximize effectiveness and impact.
  • Implement a systematic data collection plan to evaluate the effectiveness of services in achieving school-wide and individual student goals.
  • Lead the school support team in annual reporting to school, corporation, and CIS leadership, contributing to year-over-year planning and continuous improvement.

Family and Community Engagement

  • Serve as a primary point of contact and liaison between the school, families, and the broader community; build and sustain trusting relationships with students and families, particularly those experiencing barriers to engagement.
  • Connect families with local agencies, community resources, and social services to address needs related to basic needs, mental health, attendance, academic support, and more.
  • Develop and implement creative, culturally responsive outreach strategies to engage families who may be difficult to reach through traditional methods.
  • Support parent and family participation in school activities and decision-making to promote student success.
  • Act as a public relations ambassador to build a positive image of the school and MCCSC within the broader community.

School Support and Student Well-Being

  • Support the implementation of school-wide initiatives including PBIS, Social-Emotional Learning (SEL), and attendance improvement strategies.
  • Provide informal and formal information to staff and families on community resources and support systems.
  • Contribute to a positive school climate by supporting student self-esteem, healthy development, and asset-building.
  • Provide training and consultation to staff on understanding the basic needs of children and families and how unmet needs may manifest in classroom behavior.
  • Communicate outcomes and progress defined in the school support plan with building leadership on a regular basis.
  • Maintain accurate records, timely data entry, and required documentation in compliance with MCCSC and CIS reporting standards.
  • Assist in daily school operations as directed by the principal.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the building principal or Director of Student Services.
