Position Summary

The Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) provides part-time clinical services within the Student Health Center, with a primary focus on triage, assessment, episodic care, and health promotion. The FNP serves as an accessible healthcare resource for students, addressing acute health concerns, evaluating illness and injury, providing short-term treatment and recommendations, and facilitating referrals to community healthcare providers when appropriate. The position supports student well-being, academic success, and retention by helping students address health concerns that may impact their ability to thrive and engage fully in campus life and by ensuring safe, efficient delivery of health services.

This is a temporary contractor position, expected to end in November of 2026. Maximum of 20 hours per week, inclusive of direct patient care, documentation, care coordination, and necessary admin activities and not benefits eligible.

Requirements: Educational and Credentials:

• Applicants must be a graduate of an Accredited, master's degree Level Adult, Family, or Pediatric Nurse Practitioner
• Hold current an unencumbered licensure to practice in Kentucky.
• Preferred at least one-year experience as a Nurse Practitioner.
• If less than 1 year of work experience, prior student precepting rotation is preferred in the following areas, pediatrics/adolescent healthcare, urgent care clinics, family health, orthopedics, mental health, and reproductive health care settings
• If less than one-year experience the ARNP will be oriented, trained and mentor for this position in the Eagle Care Clinic.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Assessment, Triage, and Episodic Care

• Assess and triage student health concerns, determining appropriate levels of care and follow-up.
• Evaluate and treat common acute illnesses and minor injuries.
• Perform focused physical examinations and health assessments.
• Order and interpret basic laboratory and diagnostic tests as appropriate.
• Prescribe medications and treatments within scope of practice and organizational protocols.
• Identify health concerns requiring referral to primary care providers, specialists, urgent care, or emergency services.

Student Well-Being and Health Promotion

• Provide education and counseling related to healthy lifestyle practices, including nutrition, sleep, stress management, physical activity, and disease prevention.
• Support students in developing habits that promote personal well-being and academic success.
• Assist with campus wellness initiatives and health promotion activities.
• Contribute to a culture of prevention and healthy decision-making within the campus community.

Care Coordination and Referral

• Assist students in navigating healthcare resources both on and off campus.
• Facilitate referrals to community providers for ongoing primary care, specialty care, or other healthcare needs.
• Coordinate follow-up recommendations and continuity of care as appropriate.
• Maintain accurate and confidential health records in accordance with regulatory and institutional requirements.

Quality and Compliance

• Maintain current licensure, certifications, and continuing education requirements.
• Participate in quality improvement and assessment activities.
• Adhere to professional standards, institutional policies, and applicable healthcare regulations.

Position Characteristics

• Part-time position.
• Provides short-term, episodic, and triage-focused healthcare services.
• Not intended to function as a students ongoing primary care provider, although routine health concerns may be addressed when appropriate.
• Emphasizes student well-being, access to care, health education, and referral coordination.
