Family Planning Patient Coordinator - UBMD Obstetrics & Gynecology

Pay:$22 to $26 per hour, depending on relevant experience and skills
Job Summary
The Patient Coordinator helps to ensure timely, compassionate care for patients seeking abortions, miscarriage management, birth control, and other family planning services. The primary responsibilities of this role include triaging the Family Planning Mobile Line, performing initial patient intake, options counseling, scheduling appointments, coordinating surgical procedures, patient education and informed consent. The Coordinator works closely with the Family Planning Program Manager to reduce barriers for patients; streamline referrals; and provide sensitive, patient-centered support.
Key Responsibilities:
Patient Care:
- Ensure smooth and efficient service of Family Planning Mobile Line
- Answer all incoming calls and texts to Family Planning Mobile Line in organized and timely manner
- Perform initial intake, including medical history, for new patients
- Counsel patients on available abortion options and assist in decision-making
- Refer patients to most appropriate care based on their needs/values
- Triage incoming sick calls and give report to providers
- Educate patients and provide informed consent before medication and procedure abortions
- Perform follow-up calls to assess patients’ emotional and physical wellbeing post-abortion and assess abortion completion
- Provide in-clinic and phone-based counseling to patients on topics including pregnancy/abortion options, contraception, and grief support
- Facilitate positive relationships with referring providers, and serve as representative of Family Planning Program to other facilities
Scheduling & Coordination:
- Register patients in practice management system and verify insurance coverage
- Schedule in-person and telehealth appointments
- Assist patients in navigating barriers to care such as transportation, lodging, escort requirements, time off work, etc.
- Manage provider templates, appointment freeze/thaw, and patient flow through clinic
- Work with resident and attending physicians to coordinate medical clearances
- Schedule surgical procedures at Golisano Children's Hospital
- Communicate pertinent information to team members
- Collaborate with physicians, other healthcare providers, and community services to enhance patient outcomes and satisfaction
- Develop and maintain referral network of community resources and providers
Administrative:
- Edit and create patient education handouts, as needed
- Attend administrative and clinical staff meetings
- Attend weekly OB/GYN Department Grand Rounds
- Attend weekly Family Planning Huddles on relevant topics
- Attend monthly Family Planning Division meetings
Minimum Job Requirements:
Education: Some college required; Bachelor’s Degree preferred.
Experience/Qualifications:
- Experience working in abortion care provision or with people seeking abortions strongly preferred
- Current doula certification preferred
- Experience with practice management systems and electronic medical records
- Demonstrated commitment to reproductive justice and expanding options in WNY
- Has an appreciation of how racial injustice intersects with reproductive justice
- Ability to work independently while maintaining open and effective team communication
- Ability to prioritize efficiently
- Highly organized and exceptional attention to detail
- Commitment and sensitivity to confidentiality
- Has personal cell phone that can be used with Hover Mobile Application to receive incoming family planning calls; a laptop will be provided.
