Position Information

New Hanover County is looking for a Family Support Supervisor to join the Health and Human Services department. The Family Support Supervisor performs responsible work supervising a unit that works with clients who are in crisis and in need of financial assistance and assists them on the path to self-sufficiency. The Family Support Supervisor is expected to be flexible and strategic, and experienced in case management to successfully advise the unit on how to assist those in need.

Essential Duties:

  • Supervises staff, prioritizes and assigns work; conducts performance evaluations; ensures staff is trained; and makes hiring, termination, and disciplinary recommendations.
  • Works with Family Support Specialists and assesses individuals dealing with crisis situations.
  • Meets with community and various officials, and plans, organizes, and evaluates work policies and procedures.
  • Stays abreast of new fund sources provided and how to allocate funds and employees to best assist those in need.
  • Addresses questions from staff regarding the interpretation of policies for various aid programs.
  • Ensures that staff are aware of the needs of the customer and provide excellent customer service at all times.
  • Ensures an adequate level of customer service is provided by the unit.
  • Performs work with regular and predictable attendance consistently meeting the scheduling needs as required by the county.
  • Performs other duties of a similar nature or level.

8:00 AM - 5:00 PM, Monday - Friday.

Must be available to report for emergency work assignment during emergency situations.

Compensation:

The hiring range for this position is $56,351 - $76,074. Salary will be determined based on qualifications. Bilingual candidates are eligible for a differential (5%) when utilizing this skill during the course of work duties.

Qualifications

Required Education and Experience:

  • Bachelors Degree in a field related to Human Services or Public Administration, and three (3) years of related experience working in a similar structured setting; or an equivalent combination of training and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the specific position as listed above.
