Join Our Team and Grow Something Meaningful at Vogel!

Are you passionate about sustainable growing, food production, and making a real difference in the lives of children and families? Vogel, a leader in providing high-quality early childhood care and education to families in need, is seeking a dedicated Farm-to-Table Garden Coordinator to join our team.

As the Farm-to-Table Garden Coordinator, you'll lead Vogel's signature garden program — planning, cultivating, harvesting, and continuously improving our food production gardens so that fresh, nutritious produce goes directly to our kitchen and to the children and families we serve. You'll also help maintain beautiful, engaging outdoor learning environments that inspire our youngest learners every day. If you have a green thumb, a heart for mission-driven work, and a commitment to growing food that changes lives, we'd love to hear from you!

This is a full-time, hourly position with a range of $19.23 - $24.64 per hour.

What You'll Do

Lead the Farm-to-Table Garden Program
  • Develop and implement an annual Garden Production Plan and seasonal planting calendars.
  • Create crop rotation schedules and establish measurable production and harvest goals.
  • Maximize production from all garden beds, orchard areas, greenhouse space, and growing systems.
  • Grow vegetables, herbs, fruits, edible flowers, and other approved crops for Vogel's kitchen.
  • Maintain healthy soil through composting and sustainable growing practices.
  • Operate and maintain greenhouse production and monitor irrigation systems.
  • Monitor plant health and manage pests using environmentally responsible, child-safe practices.
  • Harvest produce at peak quality and deliver to the Vogel kitchen following food safety procedures.
  • Maintain all gardens in a clean, organized, attractive, and visitor-ready condition.
Farm-to-Table Planning & Kitchen Coordination
  • Meet regularly with the Food Service Director to review seasonal menu needs and align crop plans with kitchen demand.
  • Coordinate weekly harvest schedules and identify opportunities to expand Farm-to-Table offerings.
  • Minimize food waste through thoughtful production planning and evaluate annual production to recommend improvements.
Garden Documentation & Recordkeeping
  • Maintain comprehensive garden logs including crop calendars, harvest logs, yield records, greenhouse and compost logs, and maintenance records.
  • Track and document crops planted, harvest dates, pounds harvested, produce delivered to the kitchen, and seasonal production trends.
  • Prepare monthly production reports for the Senior Director of Operations.
Garden Appearance & Public Presentation
  • Maintain weed-free planting beds, healthy growing areas, clean walkways, and organized greenhouse and compost systems.
  • Maintain attractive, informative signage covering seasonal crops, harvest schedules, and educational information for families and visitors.
  • Ensure the garden is always ready for donor tours, volunteers, community partners, and special events.
Support Early Childhood Outdoor Learning
  • Maintain children's garden areas, sensory gardens, pollinator gardens, vegetable gardens, and nature exploration areas.
  • Prepare garden spaces for classroom use when requested and coordinate with Early Childhood Education Directors on maintenance schedules.
  • Assist with seasonal improvements to outdoor learning environments.
Facilities Department Support
  • After primary garden responsibilities are complete, assist the Facility Manager with assigned work orders and preventative maintenance.
  • Perform minor building repairs, painting, light carpentry, furniture assembly, and organization of storage rooms.
  • Support event setup and breakdown, playground inspections, deliveries, and campus improvement projects.
  • Maintain exterior appearance outside of production gardens.
Who You Are
  • Experience: You have a minimum of one year of experience in horticulture, agriculture, greenhouse operations, landscaping, or garden management; experience producing edible crops is preferred.
  • Knowledgeable: You have a solid understanding of sustainable gardening practices and the ability to safely operate gardening equipment and hand tools.
  • Reliable: You hold a valid Texas Driver's License with an acceptable driving record.
  • Physically Ready: You are able to lift up to 50 pounds and work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Mission-Minded: You demonstrate compassion, patience, and respect for the children and families Vogel serves.

About the Company

V

Vogel

Vogel Disposal Service was founded by Edward L. and Margaret Vogel in 1958 with a single truck. Since then, Vogel Disposal Service and its sister companies have grown to become among the largest independent providers of waste collection and disposal services in Western Pennsylvania and Eastern Ohio. The parent company, Vogel Holding, Inc., has expanded into a family of businesses that offer a wide range of environmental services.

In addition to residential waste collection, Vogel Holding provides a variety of commercial, industrial and specialty services through its family of affiliated companies. Additional environmental services include recycling, composting, landfill disposal, wood waste recycling and mulch sales, wastewater treatment, landfill gas reclamation and land survey services.

Members of the Vogel family are active in various waste industry associations and public-sector waste advisory committees. In May 2004, company founder Edward L. Vogel was inducted into the Hall of Fame of the National Environmental Industry Association.

The Vogel companies have worked hard to establish an excellent reputation with businesses by providing professional, reliable service while handling their unique waste disposal needs. We also help keep our industrial customers compliant with regulatory waste codes by offering consulting services.

Whether you require a basic program of regular waste collection or need help with a complete commercial recycling program, Vogel Holding's courteous and knowledgeable personnel are just a phone call away. We are well known for providing reliable and cost-effective service, a reputation that has earned a loyal customer following.

"We take pride in the progress that our company has made over the years through the ongoing efforts of our family and our employees. We are especially grateful to our thousands of customers."
