All other duties assigned under this order will be those duties of Farm Worker and Laborer Crop, Nursery and Greenhouse, under the Bureau of Labor Statistics Occupational Employment Statistics Standard Occupational Classification Code 45-2092. **Hand Lines:** - Connect pipes - Check the alignment of pipe and adjust for proper water distribution - Attach lines to water supply - Turn on pump - Turn valves to start flow of water - Disassemble lines and carry pipes across fields at specified intervals - Move pipes through freshly irrigated crop and/or plowed fields where mud may be deep at times - Lift and carry pipe sections weighing approximately 60 pounds on a sustained basis **Flood Irrigation:** - Lift gate inside of flooded irrigation ditch/pipe permitting water to flow into bordered section of field - Shovel and pack dirt in low spots of embankment of cut trenches in high areas to direct water flow - Close gates in ditch/pipe when bordered section is flooded - Open gate or connect pipe to underground pipe system that releases water flow into reservoir or ditch - Siphon water from flooded reservoir or ditch to channel water into designated areas - Shovel or hoe soil to clear ditches/furrows and build embankments to appropriately channel water - Mix and apply proper solutions to fill holes/cracks in pipes, ditches, and spillways, and make minor repairs to metal, concrete, and wooden frameworks in pipe and ditch valves and gates **Drip Irrigation:** Workers will lay drip tape and remove drip tape in fields during the growing season. They will inspect, monitor, and repair drip system daily. **Other Irrigation Duties:** - Remove pipes/wheel lines from storage and lay out/place in predetermined patterns in fields - Lubricate, adjust, repair, and replace parts such as sprinkler heads and drive chains using hand tools - Observe revolving sprinklers and adjust to ensure proper operation and uniform distribution of water - Disassemble, service, and store pipe/mainlines/wheel lines after irrigation season - To meet minimum acceptable performance standards when irrigating, the worker must, after a 10-day conditioning period, move an average of at least 48 40-foot sections of 3-inch pipe per hour under normal working conditions - Repairing and maintaining pivot drop hoses, laying out and picking up 3\" hand lines, replacing nozzles and sprinklers on hand lines and pivot drop hoses, laying out and collecting siphon tubes **Pivot Irrigation:** - Push on switch that activates circle sprinkler system - Turn on/off pivots - Learn and master operating a pivot - If a pivot is stuck, get it unstuck and in operating condition - Roll up/unroll pivot hoses - Unplug plugged up nozzles - Unplug plugged up hoses - Replace broken nozzles and hoses - Maintain operation of a pivot at optimum level **Planting:** - Field maintenance and weeding using hands, machinery, and sprayers - Loading seed into planters - Walking behind planters to insure proper procedure **Onion Harvest:** - Culling onions - Riding on harvester - Binning onions during the harvest/unloading process - Maintenance of bins and transport of bins to appropriate storage facilities **Additional Duties:** - Operate and maintain equipment used in agricultural production and field preparation such as tractors, irrigation equipment, 4-wheelers, trucks, and other commonly used equipment in agri ulture. - Workers may also clear debris and garbage from fields and clean/maintain farm buildings, structures, equipment, and work areas. - Load and mix chemicals in addition to operating tractors pulling air blast sprayers. - Install monitor, maintain and repair the irrigation system for a specified area of the fields. - Spray fertilizer or pesticide solutions to control insects, fungus and weed growth, and diseases, using hand sprayers. - May operate, maintain, and repair tractors, and farm machinery - Assist with farm building/field maintenance and repairs. - Remove weeds from all crops using a shovel, hoe or hands **Twining/Stringing Hops:** Attaching string (twine) between trellis and the ground. Driving the stringing cart (tractor) while other workers tie twine. Workers may ride on farm implement cart, approximately 18 feet above the ground, hand tying twine to trellis. Use tool to place metal clip in the ground.
