Workers may ride on a mechanical sweet potato harvesting trailer pulled by a tractor, where duties include pulling vines away from potatoes and sorting harvested potatoes into bins located on the trailer. Workers must pay close attention to their surroundings and follow all employer safety policies and procedures while performing harvesting activities. Workers may walk fields and harvest sweet potatoes by hand using buckets. Harvested potatoes must be sorted by size and quality, with damaged, defective, or undersized potatoes separated as directed by the crew leader or supervisor. Workers may also participate in loading, unloading, handling, and transporting harvested sweet potatoes as assigned. Workers may assist on the packline performing duties such as sorting, grading, inspecting, packing, and preparing sweet potatoes for storage, shipment, or market according to employer specifications. Workers may operate tractors and other farm equipment used in the cultivation and harvesting of crops, including but not limited to sweet potato harvesters, forklifts, skid steers, water trailers, bush hogs, disk harrows, chisel plows, hipper equipment, dual implements, and other equipment associated with agricultural operations. Workers assigned equipment operation duties must operate machinery safely and in accordance with employer instructions and safety procedures Additional duties include clearing fields of rocks, sticks, roots, brush, and other debris by hand or with hand tools; manually weeding fields; draining water from fields; participating in irrigation activities; and performing general field maintenance. Workers may also perform fence, barn, and potato shed maintenance, including minor repairs, cleaning, and upkeep of facilities, hand tools, and mechanical equipment before and after use. Workers may use lumber and basic carpentry tools to construct, repair, and maintain boxes used for handling and storing potatoes and other vegetables. Workers may clean and maintain potato sheds and other agricultural facilities located on the farm. There are few typical days, and workers may be required to change duties and/or locations frequently and perform a variety of general agricultural functions. Daily duties may vary depending on crop, weather, and field conditions. The employer reserves the right to increase workers' pay or provide bonuses based on tenure, performance, or other factors at the sole discretion of the employer.
