About the Role

As a Fatty Acids Refining Control Room Specialist, you will operate a computerized control system across multiple refinery assets — including the Hydrolyzer, Fractionator, O/S, Stills, Evaporation Trains, the Glycerin Refinery, and other ancillary systems — to safely deliver fatty acids that meet precise customer specifications.

A Day in the Life

You arrive to the control room for a detailed handoff, conducting shift turnover with the relief operator. With overnight activity in mind, you review process trends and prior entries, then step through a pre-start checklist. On cue, you bring units online: lining up manual valves, turning handles, and at times working overhead to ready equipment. From the HMI, you nudge temperatures, flows, and pressures until the product falls squarely within spec.

Once the units are running, you continuously monitor the Hydrolyzer and Fractionator while coordinating with O/S, Stills, and Evaporation Trains. You capture in-process samples and run lab analyses — checking Iodine Value, Color, pH, and more — and use Gas Chromatographs to validate composition. Your findings are documented in Quality Window, and you translate production and usage details into SAP as the shift progresses.

What You’ll Handle

  • Operate computerized controls and manual valves to stabilize processes and meet product targets.
  • Start up and adjust systems by turning valves, moving handles, and working overhead as needed while observing display screens.
  • Enter laboratory test results and observations into Quality Window to track quality performance.
  • Draw product samples and conduct laboratory tests (Iodine Value, Color, pH, and others). Run tests on Gas Chromatographs.
  • Perform regular routine safety inspections, mitigate hazards, and promptly report identified hazards to management.
  • Know when and how to perform an emergency equipment shutdown.
  • Complete visual and physical inspections of machinery and equipment twice per shift.
  • Report defects to the maintenance department/shift leader immediately and create work orders in the electronic maintenance tracking system.
  • Participate in shutdowns and repairs with the Maintenance team, assisting with inspection, installation, and repairs.
  • Execute Lockout Tag Out and isolation of systems as required.
  • Support Maintenance and Engineering teams with troubleshooting.
  • Support and assist in training and education of other employees as requested.
  • Perform area housekeeping using shovels, mix T’s, and other tools to keep work zones clean and safe.
  • Enter end-of-shift production and usage data into SAP and conduct a thorough control room handover to the relief operator.
  • Champion the Company principles of Safety, Compliance, Quality, Cost, and KPI performance, and perform other duties as requested.

How You’ll Succeed

You combine sharp process intuition with disciplined documentation. You’re proactive about safety, meticulous with data, responsive to equipment conditions, and collaborative during shift handoffs and maintenance activities. Above all, you ensure every batch meets specification — reliably and safely.
